Overall Purpose Of The Job

This position is in support of the City of Chicago Migrant Shelter operations.   

 

The primary function of the Audio Vision Tester is to provide support for the program by providing vision testing to migrants that are assigned to the program.   

Key responsibilities

Vision and audiometric tests of children for the detection of vision or hearing impairments.  

Sets up testing rooms and operates vision and hearing equipment and performs testing for the  

detection of vision and hearing impairments.  

 Prepares and maintains records on the results of vision and hearing tests for individual patients.  

 Performs daily equipment checks and minor adjustments to ensure accuracy in test administration.  

 Schedules schools and Head Start program sites for hearing and vision testing services.  

Make referrals for additional testing of children identified as having possible vision or hearing  

impairments.  

Follow up with school officials and parents to ensure children given referrals receive required  

additional medical services.  

Prepares work activity reports on services and referrals provided.  

Performs related duties as required  

Job Profile

Required Skills and Knowledge (Brief description of technical knowledge or skills needed to perform the job) 

Fluency in Spanish Required  

Strong PC/Microsoft Office applications background 

Excellent written and oral communication skills 

Strong team building and team-member skills. 

Excellent data entry skills 

 

Experience: 

Minimum of 1 year experience  

Previous experience working with young school age children, documenting results and preparing  

reports, and proficiency with MS office software is preferred. 

 

Education: 

Certification by the State of Illinois as a licensed Vision Screening Technician and Hearing Screening  

Technician is required. 

 

Physical Demands:  

Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.  

May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.  

Requires droving to multiple locations. 

 

 

Other Special Qualifications: 

US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.   

A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.  

Permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured including a clause specifically insuring the  

City of Chicago from accident liability.
