The Downsizers has an additional offering, The Consignors, which serves as a clearinghouse for our clients household items as they go through the downsizing process. The Consignors is an online estate auction business, located in Chapel Hill, NC.
This is a tremendous opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing demographic challenge which is the amount of belongings coming out of estates, and finding ways to both sell and re-home items.
This candidate should have an interest in vintage, antiques and collectible items. They should also have an interest in sustainability and the fundamental re-use of items.

Summary: Responsible for researching and developing accurate descriptions of anything you might find in a household (jewelry, pottery, kitchenware, collectibles, art/sculpture, coins, furniture and much more) for upcoming auction catalogs. Must be knowledgeable of the value of items and be able to assess how to prioritize items.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create catalog descriptions of items for upcoming auctions
- Research to gather basic factual information for descriptions effectively
- Determine appropriate venue for item(s) as we have multiple channels (eBay, other auction houses, on-line marketplaces, our auctions)
- Use available tools to make quick and accurate descriptions of items
- Processes incoming consignments accurately and efficiently, including:
- Unpacking large bins of items
- Inspecting items for condition or quality
- Assisting in lotting items together
- Keeping items organized and labeled correctly
- Item photography in our cataloging app (must have a smart phone)
- Able to lift boxes of material up to 50 pounds
Responsibilities are subject to change based on the needs of the business.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience with Apple equipment (iPhone, iPad, and Mac).
- Preferred: Familiarity with antiques, art, jewelry, decorative home items, collectibles, and auction industry.
- eCommerce/eBay/Etsy/Shopify experience helpful
Must pass a background check and be insurable and bondable.
Skills & Abilities:
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft applications.
- Extreme attention to detail
- Excellent writing and/or cataloging skills
- Strong research skills in a high-production environment
- An inquisitive, research-oriented mind
- The ability to take direction and work in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
- Must be able to focus on repetitive tasks for periods of time.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $17/hour to start with potential for increases
