Job description

The Attorney III will report directly to the Assistant Chief Counsel who oversees California Endangered Species Act, Landscape Conservation Planning, and other natural resources issues relating to plants, fish, and wildlife. The Attorney III will advise CDFW staff on a variety of legal issues relating to fish and wildlife and other natural resources, including issues arising under the Fish and Game Code.
The primary focus of this position is to provide effective legal advice related to complex issues arising under the Natural Community Conservation Planning Act, the Conservation and Mitigation Banking Program, the Regional Conservation Investment Strategies Program, and the California Endangered Species Act. The Attorney III will conduct complex legal research; prepare legal opinions, memoranda, and correspondence; negotiate, draft, and review agreements and transactional documents; assist and advise CDFW staff with respect to natural resources, permitting, and regulatory issues relating to fish and wildlife; and work with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation related to CDFW’s programs.
