Position Summary:

Campbell University, is an NCAA Division I institution, a member of the Coastal Athletic Association, and hosts 21 sports programs The Athletics Academic Coach is a part-time member of the department’s academic support staff and reports directly to the Assoc. AD, Student-Athlete Support. This position serves an integral role within the Campbell University Athletics Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Academic Coaching to assigned student-athletes on strategies for academic success.
  • Provide coaching to assigned student-athletes on time management, organization, and study skills.
  • Provide detailed reports on progress of assigned student-athletes on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with NCAA, Coastal Athletic Association and University rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by the Athletic Department and Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal guidelines.
  • Additional job-related duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time, with or without notice.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree desired.
  • Experience competing as a NCAA Division I (insert sport) athlete desired.
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to mentor a caseload of at-risk student-athletes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to adhere to the rules, bylaws and guidelines of the NCAA, affiliated conferences), Campbell University, FERPA, etc.
  • Available to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative creative environment producing work that not only aligns with the overall mission of the department, but also advances the overall mission and goals of the university.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, operate meticulously, and set appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions; ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Experience and skills working independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
