Under general supervision by a physician, the Athletic Trainer (AT) will provide athletic training and clinical supports services in sports medicine and orthopedic practice. These may include but are not limited to: patient intake and rooming, obtaining a patient history, performing a physical exam, documentation in the electronic health record, patient education, casting and splinting application, durable medical equipment services, providing pre- and post-operative care for patients and assisting manage the clinical in-basket.
This role is open to new grads who are looking to start their careers with MaineHealth! You will have the opportunity to obtain your OTC (Orthopedic Technologist Certification) license within one year of being hired. For those who have their OTC, he or she will also provide surgical assisting duties as directed by the orthopedic surgeon. These may include but are not limited to: patient positions, draping, using sterile techniques, passing of instruments, tissue retraction, management working portals and arthroscopic devices, graft preparation, skin closure and application of post-operative dressings as well as any other task delineated by the OTC scope of practice.
- Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (graduation from CAATE accredited program). Master’s degree preferred (Post-professional masters in athletic training or a health related field).
- License/Certifications: Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility) in the State of Maine. BOC Certification. NBCOT Certification (eligible or application in process). CPR/AED Certification (must be completed through the American Heart Association).
- Experience: 2-3 years’ experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer (preferred).
