Under the guidance of the Director of Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Support, the Athletic Trainer will help serve approximately 300 OCC student-athletes during the academic year by providing quality emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation for injured student-athletes in order to minimize and prevent injuries.
Responsibilities:
- Performs acute injury evaluations for student-athletes and maintain appropriate injury records.
- Makes appropriate emergency referrals or provide treatment and care for student-athletic injuries as necessary.
- Assists in implementing preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries; inform coaching staff on the status of injuries and treatment plans.
- Provides game and practice coverage as assigned by the Director for Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Support.
- Assists with reviewing pre-participation physical exam paperwork for completeness and accuracy.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with coaches, staff and designated team physicians.
- Assists with the supervision of Federal Work Study students.
Hours vary and will include nights and weekends based on intercollegiate practices and game schedules.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field of study
- Certified by the NATA BOC
- Eligibility for New York State Athletic Training Licensure
- Current First Aid/CPR-AED Professional Rescuer Certification
- Experience in the field of athletic training
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity
- Knowledge of athletic training supplies and equipment and the skilled use of first aid procedures
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, coaches, staff and volunteers
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.
Additional Information:
This is an exempt position with a 10-month (August - May) salary of $50,000.
