Job Summary

Under supervision from designated supervisor, provide event set up, maintenance, custodial, and safety assurance for the Division of Intercollegiate athletic facilities and State Farm Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Athletic Facilities Maintenance -
    • Perform duties involved in maintenance of facilities used for intercollegiate athletic events, practice, camps, concerts, shows and other functions under the direction of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
    • Prepares athletic facilities and grounds, which may include duties such as marking playing fields and setting up athletic equipment, chairs, or bleachers, and moving equipment within the facilities necessary for proper operation;
    • Perform event preparation including the construction, maintenance, set-ups, and striking of sets before, during, and after events.
    • Maintains indoor and outdoor sports venues to sustain them in proper condition for athletic practice and competition.
    • Responsible for the maintenance of facilities and equipment used by athletics and Division of Intercollegiate Athletics personnel;
    • Reports to supervisor status of assigned work, makes suggestions for alternative methods of accomplishing tasks assigned when appropriate;
    • Safely and effectively operate utility vehicles such as man lifts, lawn mowers, tractors, golf carts, forklifts;
    • Safely and effectively operate power tools necessary for event set-up and maintenance;
    • Maintain non-playing surfaces and spaces to ensure DIA property is appropriately prepared for daily operations including, mowing grass, leaves collection, snow and ice removal and prevention, and spraying pesticides (Illinois Pesticide Chemical License when required by department); and
    • Perform necessary functions to complete the conversion of a multi-purpose facility between a variety of live entertainment and sporting events.

  • Cleaning and Disinfecting Buildings -
    • Performs custodial duties in the cleaning of athletic facilities and property, including, but not limited to mopping, scrubbing, floor renovation, cleaning fixtures, washing windows, vacuuming, cleaning and waxing floors/furnishing, and cleaning rest rooms.
  • Safety and Compliance -
    • Ensures that safety policies and procedures are followed in maintaining a safe environment for personnel, athletes, event participants and spectators.
    • Addresses equipment and facilities in need of repair
    • Including but not limited to plunging a toilet, changing a light bulb, assembling and fixing equipment for events.
    • Elevates information to proper personnel regarding items, equipment, and facilities in need of high level of repair beyond employee’s understanding.
  • Miscellaneous -
    • Prepares requisitions for supplies, keeps receipts of goods and materials and maintains inventory of University property;
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands

Physical Demands:
  • The physical demands of the job include but are not limited to lifting, moving heavy objects, and utilizing proper equipment to assist when needed.

Working Environment:
  • Use of pesticides as necessary for the maintenance of fields and other lawn care areas, which will require obtaining an Illinois Pesticide Chemical License.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0501 - Athletic Facilities Attendant position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 3/18/2024. The salary for this position is $18.64/hr.
