Job Summary:  

The Athletics Events Manager reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director, the Athletic Events Manager helps to coordinate the event management responsibilities for all home contests in accordance with the Big East Conference and NCAA Division 1 guidelines. This position is responsible for arranging and supervising all events taking place in any athletic fields including events held in athletic facilities by non-athletic groups and outside organizations. The maintenance and upkeep of the athletic fields including daily interactions with the following departments---Public Safety, Facility Services, Fire Safety, Food Services, Grounds, IT/Telecommunications etc.--is a requirement and a duty.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage game operations and ensure that game practices and services are meeting the needs and the safety of coaches, student-athletes, visiting teams, officials, and patrons 
  • Serve as on-site administrator for assigned events  
  • Manage and oversee the department's staff (4 graduate assistants, 4-5 interns, 10-15 student workers, and 80 event staffers) by hiring, training, submitting payroll, etc.  
  • Maintain and upkeep all electronic equipment: scoreboards, LED message boards, clock and sound equipment including the department's music laptops 
  • Oversee athletic department passenger vans by maintaining accurate booking of vehicles, ensuring all drivers are formally approved to drive by the University, tracking and scheduling maintenance of vehicles, preserving cleanliness of van pool, enforcing van use policies, reviewing and updating van policies annually, etc.  
  • Plan the scheduling practices and events for 17 division 1 sports teams 
  • Communicate departmental needs and coordinate efforts with Conference Services, Special Events, Facilities Services, Maintenance, Grounds, Night Cleaners, Purchasing, IT/Telecommunications, Food Services, Public Safety, Fire Safety and Environmental Safety 
  • Formulate an external event drive to organize, track, staff, and pay external events occurring on the athletic fields 
  • Develop daily work order log and generate and track maintenance work tickets, work orders, security key lock work orders, and telephone service requests 
  • Work in conjunction with University Facilities and Grounds to ensure all outside facilities--Belson Stadium, Belson Press Box, Kaiser Stadium, DaSilva Track & Field, DaSilva Press Box, Softball Field, and Tennis Courts--are ready for practice and competition 
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director in facilities planning, renovations, special facilities projects, and capital planning 
  • Conduct weekly building inspections of Carnesecca Arena and Taffner Field House 
  • Represent the department in the absence of the Assistant Athletics Director 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors' degree required; master's degree preferredin related field 
  • 2-4 years of experience in athletic operations and facilities at the collegiate level 
  • Supervisory experience preferred 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy  
  • Event planning and organizingbackground   
  • Effective communicationand interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills needed 
  • Valid Driver's License  
  • Knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) required

 

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $58,500 to $59,500. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
