This is a full time, 37.5 hour per week position with a generous benefit package. Starting salary range is $23.42 - $27.29 per hour.

SCOPE OF WORK: Responsible for overseeing and growing the culture of athletics at MCC. Working to engage current students and recruiting new students for athletic teams at the college. This position will be responsible for both the oversight of athletic programs as well as creating and fostering community relationships that promote engagement in MCC Athletics. Hours may vary with student demands and will include weekend and evening hours. This position will report to the Vice President of Student and Community Development

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for growing a culture around athletic programing at MCC. Focusing on MCC’s mission of access and inclusion creating a culture that promotes athletics from a club to varsity level programing.
  • Works with Admissions, the Director of Student Life and coaches to recruit potential athletes from local areas, supporting the students through the Admissions, Financial Aid, and Registration process.
  • Expand current programing around Esports and promote new offerings in league sports at MCC.
  • Serve as a coach for one sport offering at MCC.
  • Recruiting and supervising coaches and referees as required.
  • Serving as the point person for Summer camps as applicable.
  • Works with Marketing to ensure the athletic information is up to date and accurate on the website.
  • Build community support and engagement by working with local organizations to support, fund, and partner with MCC Athletics.
  • Coordinates and approves all aspects of athletic travel and athlete eligibility and medical clearance, and managing all game contracts as needed.
  • Responsible for signing out and collecting all intercollegiate athletic equipment and uniforms, inputting all game states for athletic teams by deadline.
  • Serving as the liaison and point person to the athletic conference MCC joins, and submitting all Player of the Week and All Conference nominations by required deadline.
  • Enforces the policies in the student handbook and code of conduct.
  • Trains and oversees work study staff and fitness/wellness interns and any VISTA positions working with MCC Athletics.
  • Serves as a liaison with the MCC Wellness Programming Specialist, Health Fitness Program, and the Fitness Center.
  • Improves technical skills and professional teaching methods through formal and/or informal on-the-job training, participation in teaching workshops, and study of written materials.
  • Complies with all system, College, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in recreation, sports management, coaching, health, education, physical education or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years’ experience as a physical education teacher, athletics program coordinator, coach, recreation coordinator, recreation therapist or related work experience in education, health, athletics, recreation, or sports management. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License / Certification: CPR / First Aid certification recommended. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in education coordinating athletic or recreational programs for students. Work with underserved populations or social service organizations.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the laws and procedures pertaining to the program being supervised. General knowledge of current best practices in specialized field of work. Knowledge of modern athletic recruitment practices, procedures and equipment. Ability to plan, supervise, coordinate and direct the work of others. Ability to make sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions based upon fact-finding interviews within the parameters of the rules and policies of the college. Ability to meet with prospective students and explain programs sponsored by the department or college in which the position is located. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
