Salary Information Department Summary
The University of North Texas ( UNT), a Carnegie Research I University, is strategically located in Denton, Texas which is 35 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT is also one of the universities designated by the State of Texas as an "Emerging Research University." There are over 42,000 students registered in 113 bachelors, 94 masters, and 36 doctoral degree programs. The DFW area has more than six million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. Our hiring and expansion effort is an integral part of UNT's commitment to bolster transformational, integrative research and to address complex scientific, technological, environmental, and societal problems through multidisciplinary collaboration and innovation. The UNT Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department is in the 550,000 square foot UNT College of Engineering Discovery Park building situated on 290 acres of land available for R&D enterprises. The College of Engineering was established in 2003 and currently houses five departments. Its bachelor programs are ABET accredited and it offers master's and doctoral level graduate programs.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, Korean, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Texas ( UNT) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position (Tenured/Tenure Track) in the broader area of Thermal Sciences and Energy. The Department is particularly interested in creative scholars who can contribute fundamentally to the investigation of thermo-fluid sciences, energy, environment and sustainability.
The successful candidate will build on current strengths in the Department and the College of Engineering, particularly in the areas of energy devices, materials, and systems; heat transfer; fluid mechanics; and computational and experimental methods. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our research program, promote transdisciplinary research, develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program funded by extramural funding sources, teach ME undergraduate and graduate courses, support, and mentor graduate students, and provide service to the University and the profession.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or in a closely related field.
  • For the Assistant Professor position, a strong research record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required.
  • For the Associate Professor position, the requirements include a sustained record of scholarship, evidence of external research funding with active grant(s), successful mentoring of junior faculty, and recognized service activities.
