UConn Health’s New England Sickle Cell Institute and Connecticut Bleeding Disorders Center seek a board certified hematologist with demonstrated expertise in benign hematology and specific interest in caring for adults with sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and bleeding disorders. This is a full time faculty position within the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center with a primary academic appointment in the Division of Hematology Oncology of the Department of Medicine. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical research skills ideally with experience in investigator-initiated, grant-funded, and sponsored clinical research.
The New England Sickle Cell Institute (NESCI) is a state-of –the-art outpatient facility (dedicated 10,000 sq ft) which serves as a tertiary referral center for adults with acute and chronic SCD across New England and parts of New York. The Connecticut Bleeding Disorders Center is a long-standing federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center and a regional referral center for the treatment of hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other bleeding disorders.
Both NESCI and the Connecticut Bleeding Disorders Center (CBDC) maintain federally-funded grants from HRSA. Additionally, NESCI is the primary grantee for the American Society of Hematology Clinical Trials Network and the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health Sickle Cell Services program. NESCI has a strong track record of investigator-initiated and global multi-institutional collaborative research with impressive subject enrollment and publication rates.
