Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement

The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancementon the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) will contribute to the university’s advancement goals and objectives by providing innovative, collaborative, and strategic leadership to a portfolio of advancement units across the UT Knoxville campus, as well as through fundraising via a personal portfolio.

As a leader within the Advancement division, the AVC will work collaboratively with senior leadership of the university, academic deans, and unit leaders to build strong relationships, develop strategy, and oversee fundraising initiatives in service of university-wide and unit fundraising goals. They will be responsible for refining and articulating their units’ fundraising needs; advocating for and amplifying those needs; and generating excitement for top priorities. The AVC will directly manage a team of six, with up to 20 indirect reports within their units’ advancement teams.

The AVC will carry a portfolio of top prospects, executing cultivation and solicitation strategies and securing major, leadership, and principal gifts. Additionally, the AVC will serve as a member of the division’s senior leadership team and will also work in support of university-wide campaigns and initiatives, as well as the Chancellor’s strategic priorities.  

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a compelling record of accomplishment in philanthropic giving and leading teams within a distributed and matrixed organization.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership: Management of advancement officers and leaders within assigned units.
  • Major Gift Fundraising: The AVC will manage a portfolio of prospects, including identification, qualification, cultivation, and stewardship activities.
  • Collaboration: Partnership with university, academic, and advancement leadership to achieve goals in line with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.  

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Associate Vice Chancellor position is required to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Eight or more years of advancement experience in major gift fundraising, annual giving, and gift planning
  • Two or more years of management and supervisory experience

 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree
  • Ten or more years of advancement experience in major gift fundraising, annual giving, and gift planning
  • Higher education fundraising experience is preferred
