Description: The pay range is $53,700.00 - $96,700.00

A role with Engineering and Technical Design means an opportunity to turn design concepts and strategies into tangible, innovative, and market disrupting Target owned-brand products.

Working collaboratively with best-in-class Cross-Functional partners, vendors, and leadership you'll drive brand and product cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our product meets the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.
As an Associate Technical Designer, Outdoor Living, you will:
  • Support Technical Development of original products exclusive to Target, that achieve overall design vision, express our brands' values, and deliver on business strategies.
  • Stay abreast of home / outdoor offerings by conducting market research, identifying emerging themes and assortment opportunities, guiding strategy and engineering product value on par with competitors and benchmarks.
  • Execute guest research and user testing to inform and create product solutions that meet the needs of our guest.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Team to ensure development is compatible with brand & technical standards, vendor capabilities and pricing goals.
  • Engage with domestic and overseas vendors to understand and leverage manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies, building expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability, and ROI where appropriate.
  • Take a diligent approach to workload, maintaining timely communication, ensuring accuracy of internal & vendor facing workspaces, and managing adherence to development timelines across platforms to keep the product development process moving forward.
  • Request, evaluate, and approve vendor samples, create and maintain complete and accurate product specifications, and finalize production approvals within our product development system.
  • Partner with Quality and Compliance Team to gain an understanding of performance testing protocols and claims criteria to inform up-stream work.
  • Proactively identify / alleviate potential manufacturing and quality concerns within the product development cycle and manages any post-production issues or quality concerns with Cross Functional Team and vendor to resolve.
  • Act as key stakeholder in communicating product features and attributes throughout development process and post-launch; capable of articulating benefit to the guest, communicating 'why to buy' for our merchant partners, and scrubbing guest-facing content and copy for accuracy.
  • Build solid relationships with team members, CFT partners and vendors.
  • Develop, document, and deploy technical processes and standards (brand, product, and quality.)
  • Travel domestically to support business as needed.

About you:
  • Four-year degree in Fashion Design, Product Design, Technical Design, Textiles, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in a related creative field or supporting product design and development in a retail environment.
  • Base line understanding of soft-goods pattern-making, construction, sewing, and related materials.
  • Proficient in use of relevant computer applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Office 365, and PLM system (3D design interest or experience, a plus)
  • Robust problem solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Aptitude for accuracy and high attention to detail
  • Action-oriented; adept at working in a fast-paced, often changing, highly collaborative environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
