Position Summary
The Associate Patent Attorney is a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who will draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of inventors and argue cases before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Location
North Salt Lake, UT – Hybrid position
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
· Communicate with clients and inventors regarding new patent filings and manage invention disclosure meetings.
· Draft and file new patent applications based on invention disclosures.
· Draft and file office action responses in answer to rejections from the USPTO.
· Perform interviews with USPTO Examiners to address and resolve patent application rejections.
· Prepare and file appeal briefs at the PTAB in response to rejections from the USPTO.
· Communicate with clients regarding patent portfolio strategies and individual patent application recommendations.
· Work with foreign associates in prosecution of US and foreign patent application filings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Strong writing skills with the ability to clearly and succinctly describe complex, technical subject matter
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· In-depth knowledge of patent filing and prosecution practices in the USPTO, PCT, and other major jurisdictions world-wide
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
· Ability to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision
· Ability to keep and maintain confidential information regarding clients and firm issues
· Aptitude to learn and quickly grasp firm specific software
Qualifications
· 1-5 years of experience as a practicing Patent Attorney
· Admitted to practice before the USPTO as a Patent Attorney
· Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
