Position Summary: 


The primary responsibility of this position is to provide precise and dependable microbiological analysis of raw ingredients, finished products, the environment, and the processing environment. Our goal is to ensure that the final product is safe for public consumption and meets the quality standards set by our customers. You will report to the Quality Laboratory Supervisor, and in the absence of the Microbiologist, another Microbiologist will serve as backup.

 

Please take note of the work schedule: Monday to Friday, from 2:00pm to 10:00pm, with weekend rotations as needed. 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and follow Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, which must be based on Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Adopt microbiological methods prescribed in the official compendiums (e.g., AOAC, AACC, FCC, USP, BP, etc.).
  • Test raw ingredients, finished products, and environmental samples.
  • Test finished products for sterility using pour plate, petrifilm, and rapid micro test methods.
  • Monitor the plant and laboratory environment by taking swabs, air, and water samples at set frequencies.
  • Participate in AOAC proficiency testing, including performing specific tests, expressing results accurately, and monitoring response time.
  • Provide month-end statistical information to QATM, process documentation for the Supervisor and Plant Manager.
  • Maintain registration of laboratory permits.
  • Maintain clean equipment and laboratory environment.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback on testing results to management.
  • Evaluate and authorize the stability of raw materials and finished products.
  • Regularly review all laboratory programs and keep records.
  • Provide general support to plant production and quality as assigned by plant leadership.
  • Attend all safety meetings, report any safety incidents/accidents, and understand and follow all safety protocols.
  • Train in the Nestle Health Science HACCP program to identify critical steps and instructions critical to the effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan.
  • Provide support for the current SQF System.
  • Manage micro laboratory supplies, including inventory on a set frequency.
  • Communicate with lab suppliers and order supplies when necessary.
  • Maintain technical proficiency by participating in training and development courses provided by LMS.
  • Adhere to the ethical standards outlined by Nestle Health Science USA.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and suggestions organized by plant management.
  • Participate in cost savings initiatives.
  • Participate in courses provided by GFTC, Silliker, or other leaders in microbiology, or organized by the Corporate Microbiology Task Force.
     

 

Experience and Education Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Microbiology or Biology (strongly preferred)
  • 1 yr of experience in a microbiological laboratory 
  • Knowledge of pathogen confirmation tests. 
  • Full understanding of biohazards and laboratory safety.
