The Associate Landscape Architect, under direction, performs journey level professional landscape design and site planning and supervises preparation of related plans and contract documents for such projects; develops master plans, designs, prepares construction and maintenance documents, inspects and supervises construction of Landscape Architectural projects; advises in the construction and maintenance of such projects; responsible for reviewing plans and performing field review inspections for enforcement of ordinances/legislation related to environmental landscaping and related land use. Positions in this class are distinguished from Assistant Landscape Architects by the leadworker responsibilities assigned and the possession of a license as a Registered Landscape Architect issued by the California Board of Landscape Architects. Knowledge of
  • Principles of current Landscape Architecture technology, design, and landscape construction methods, including various phases of engineering principles as applied to Landscape Architecture
  • Federal, State, and County ordinances and legislation which impact Landscape Architectural practices and procedures, including the Sacramento County Tree Preservation and Protection Ordinance and Water Conserving Landscape Requirements Ordinance
  • Landscape contracting methods and procedures
  • Proper application of plants, soils and natural features in a variety of landscaping situations
  • Characteristics and requirements of various plant life and construction materials and methods suitable for program projects
  • Construction codes and ordinances
  • Principles of budget preparation and budget control
  • Principles and techniques of supervision, training, and performance evaluation
Ability to
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of para-professional, technical and subordinate staff
  • Prepare sketches, plans, construction documents, and cost estimates for Landscape Architectural projects
  • Demonstrate artistic and creative aptitude
  • Correlate engineering or architectural features and theory to proposed landscape projects
  • Enforce applicable ordinances and legislation related to landscaping and land use issues
  • Prepare technical reports, contract documents, and correspondence
  • Conduct public meetings
  • Establish effective working relationships with employees, private consultants, contractors, public officials and the public
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Landscape Architect issued by the California Board of Landscape Architects.

Special Requirements
Driver's License Requirement: A valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher will be required prior to appointment.
Note: Failure to maintain the appropriate valid California Driver's License required for this class constitutes cause for termination from the class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4.
Probationary Period
The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.APPLICATION

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.
This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
