Position Available: Associate Immigration Attorney (Bilingual English/Spanish)

The Law Offices of James A. Welcome seeks a bilingual Associate Immigration law attorney with a minimum of two years of experience to handle all aspects of immigration removal defense and family immigration visa petitions. The Law Offices of James A. Welcome is a Connecticut law firm with five office locations. The office was established in 2007 and focuses on providing legal services in immigration matters, in areas including political asylum, juvenile protection, family-based petitions, marriage petitions, citizenship, deportation, DACA and VAWA.

This associate attorney position carries a strong preference for attorneys that speak and write Spanish in addition to being fluent in English. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter, an active learner, a compassionate advocate for your client, and committed to growth and personal and professional accomplishment.

This position is available in the Waterbury or Norwalk office locations.

The ideal associate attorney candidate will be one who is capable of handling a full caseload of juvenile petitions, political asylum, removal defense, appellate work, legal brief writing and family-based immigration visa petitions.

Responsibilities include:

- Conduct legal research and analysis using Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
- Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Assist with case management and organization
- Draft and review petitions, applications and other legal documents
- Represent clients in court proceedings and hearings
- Provide legal advice and guidance to clients
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex cases
- Attend client meetings, initial consultations and depositions

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Connecticut Bar or intention to apply to the Connecticut Bar
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Experience in legal drafting and document preparation
- Ability to litigate cases effectively in court
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Detail-oriented with a strong attention to accuracy
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficiency in Spanish and English speaking and writing

The law firm also represents the rights of those in Connecticut who are injured on the job and those who are injured through the negligence of others. The Associate Immigration Attorney will also have an opportunity to grow and expand his/her practice through professional training and exposure to personal injury claims, workers’ compensation claims, criminal defense in state courts and residential real estate transactions.

Admission to the Connecticut Bar is a requirement for this position. The ideal candidate must be experienced and comfortable appearing in Connecticut State Courts and have experience appearing federal immigration courts. Requires own transportation.

This position requires good customer service and friendly, compassionate client contact. Teamwork and collaboration are essential to our success. Must be comfortable working within a team as well as independently.
