`ASSOCIATE I- PARKS
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under regular supervision, performs general grounds maintenance and custodial work as necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of public parks. Reports to the Parks Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
- Performs general grounds maintenance work as assigned, including but not limited to cutting grass; raking leaves; removing debris from properties; installing trees, shrubbery, and flowers; removing weeds; pruning; applying mulch; applying fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides as needed, etc.
- Loads, hauls and unloads equipment, mulch, planting materials, etc., as needed for assignments.
- Performs minor repairs to irrigation systems components.
- Performs general custodial duties to maintain clean and sanitary public restrooms.
- Observes all applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Maintains and performs minor repair work on assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Operates a lawn mower, weed eater, tractor, edger, tiller, as well as a variety of hand and power tools. Exercise’s care and safety in the use and maintenance of required tools and equipment.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or the Park Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in grounds keeping or landscaping, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. South Carolina driver's license required.
ASSOCIATE II- PARKS
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under supervision, assists the Parks Supervisor, and learns to direct assigned crews while performing general maintenance and assigned duties. Performs general grounds maintenance and custodial work as necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of public parks, Rights-of-ways, and City owned properties. Public Works Associate II will report to the Parks Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
- Performs general grounds maintenance work as assigned, including but not limited to cutting grass; raking leaves; removing debris from properties; installing trees, shrubbery, and flowers; removing weeds; pruning; applying mulch; applying fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides as needed, etc. This will require the ability to lift and/or carry weights of up to 50lbs.
- Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control a variety of equipment including but not limited to skid steers, mini excavators, non CDL dump truck, pickup trucks, and trailers. To include proper loading and unloading of equipment.
- Loads/Unloads, transports, and picks up mulch, planting materials, and various other materials associated with the projects and assignments.
- Installs, inspects, and maintains playground equipment and Park furnishings.
- A working knowledge with the operation of an irrigation system, along with the ability to troubleshoot and repair on an as needed basis.
- Requires the ability to apply general principles of arborist techniques to include but not limited to pruning trees and shrubs.
- Performs general custodial duties to maintain clean and sanitary public restrooms.
- Observes all applicable safety rules and regulations and reports all violations to the Parks Supervisor or Public Works Safety Officer.
- Maintains and performs minor repair work on assigned equipment and tools.
- Operates a lawn mower, weed eater, tractor, edger, tiller, chainsaw, as well as a variety of hand and power tools. Exercise’s care and safety in the use and maintenance of required tools and equipment.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness and provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.
- Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or his/her designee.
- Subject to recall for emergency and designated “remain-behind” personnel in the event of a natural disaster.
- Position is required to be part of a weekend rotation of general park duties.

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two years of experience in grounds keeping or landscaping, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid South Carolina driver's license required.

Pay: $36,157.81 - $45,864.00 per year

- 8 hour shift
