The Associate General Counsel is a trusted partner to business leaders and supports all Company departments with their day-to-day legal matters. Integral to the role is the Associate General Counsel's ability to identify and mitigate risk, resolve conflicts, and lead legal training for the Company. The Associate General Counsel uses business acumen to balance risks to achieve Company business goals and objectives. The company is located in Mission Valley, San Diego and are on a flexible schedule where you would mainly work in office with the flexibility to work around your lifestyle.

Fenton's goal is to ensure performance-based compensation that is motivating and competitive - and we adopt a pay-for-performance approach. To support this goal, we obtain annual market data for each role from similar organizations in the applicable market to ensure we are paying based on current market information. Some of our roles include variable pay, which includes commissions and/or a bonus structure intended to incentivize performance where it matters most.
The compensation range for this position is $260,000 - $370,000 (base plus bonus) per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate.

YOU will make an impact by (including but not limited to) ...
- Key legal advisor on day-to-day, routine legal matters for the Company such as legal rights, compliance, risk management, and new and existing laws that could impact business.
- Responsible for routine corporate oversight and responsibilities in alignment with the General Counsel's role as Secretary to the Group of Companies.
- Manages outside counsel, advising business leaders in the selection and guidance of outside counsel to achieve desired outcomes within budget, and in alignment with the General Counsel's outside counsel management strategy.
- Performs or causes to be performed legal research, insight, evaluation, and guidance using basic business acumen for transactions, new business areas, and business planning.
- Develops, reviews, and negotiates contracts on behalf of the Company, including but not limited to the creation of boilerplate forms.
- Responsible for routine litigation matters, in alignment with the General Counsel's overall litigation strategy; responsible for updating the GC Report monthly.
- Provide oversight and guidance to Legal Operations Manager for landlord-tenant matters, insurance and claims administration, routine litigation processing, environmental matters, and legal trainings and education.
- Manages legal training and education partnering with other members of the Legal & Risk Management department.
- Acts as a legal resource to other members of the Legal & Risk Management department in support of Commercial Drafting, Contracts & Transactions Management, and Legal Operations activities.
- Leads administration of Property Owners Associations where Company representatives are Board members.
- Maintain and manage the Company's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, services marks, fictious name filings, and licenses.
What you possess
- Must have at least 8-10 years' experience as counsel in the real estate industry or similar
- Must have a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in California
- Must have experience in Real Estate Law
