The Foundation Relations Associate collaborates with the Director of Foundation Relations to manage all aspects of prospecting, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of private foundations in regional markets and nationally. The Associate deepens relationships across a defined foundations portfolio (through personal outreach and communications), to increase retention and long-term value of these donor segments. The Associate plays a large role in researching and identifying prospects for continued movement through the foundation pipeline.
This position is preferably based in Washington, D.C. (hybrid two days in the office) but could be fully remote for the right candidate. This position offers a range of $55k-$60K. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With guidance from the Director, manages a small portfolio of approximately 20 foundation donors (varying in capacity from $5,000 to $50,000) through all phases of the Foundation Relationship cycle, including identification of opportunities, discovery meetings with the Director of Foundation Relations, cultivation meetings with foundation officers, proposal preparation/writing/editing, and report writing/editing.
  • Coordinates with Shared Support team to ensure we have the most up-to-date state- and project-specific language for proposals, reports, and other outreach.
  • Actively prospects and/or qualifies prospects (as they come to us) through research for giving potential and organizational alignment.
  • Ensures appropriate stewardship and recognition in connection with grants. Assists Director of Foundation Relations in distributing event invitations, articles, organizational, updates etc.
  • Manages the grant calendar and ensures all deadlines are recorded.
    Works with Finance team and shares support to get grant agreements signed and executed.
  • Work closely with the Director of Foundation Relations and Resource Development and Growth colleagues to develop meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate communications, invitations, and track RSVPS, for all special events - virtual or live.
  • Review the foundation team's records in Raiser's Edge, which includes updating information on gifts, contacts, and campaigns, as well as generating reports and contact lists. Track daily all market donations to support timely acknowledgements.
    Assist team with any mailings (annual reports, etc).
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring those values are embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
  • Occasional travel up to 15% for team retreats and team events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
  • 2-3 years' relevant experience in development and/or membership fundraising required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build sustainable relationships for the purposes of fundraising.
  • Sound knowledge of industry trends and best practices; both detail and big picture oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain focus and detail orientation in a fluid environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify, communicate about, and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite, and experience with Raisers Edge or similar donor management software preferred, but not required.
  • Adept at coordinating and prioritizing individual workload and maintaining focus and communication with colleagues in a remote environment.
  • Proven ability to excel working independently and as part of a (virtual and live) team environment.
  • Credible skill in clear, persuasive, and dynamic communication with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
