Title: Associate Director of Organizational Development & Assessment
Appointment and Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday; varying work hours including early morning, evenings, and weekends. Hybrid eligible. Must be available for any emergency situations as determined by ASI and the University.
OVERVIEWAssociated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, ASI is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 28,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. Currently, the guiding ideas of the organization are “under construction” as the team re-imagines its vision, mission, and core values. POSITION DEFINITIONUnder the general direction of the Director of Organizational Effectiveness, the Associate Director of Organizational Development & Assessment is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and support of a comprehensive organizational strategic training program, professional development program, organization process management, organizational assessment and evaluation, and learning organization master planning to foster an environment that values inclusivity, engages in evidence-based decision-making, and enhances overall employee effectiveness in promoting quality ASI programs and services. As a member of the ASI Leadership Team, the Associate Director of Organizational Development & Assessment is expected to provide ethical, compassionate, collaborative, thoughtful, student-focused, and results-driven leadership to those internal and external to the organization. The Associate Director communicates openly, honestly, and directly with the Director, senior leadership, department heads, and their teams. Essential to the success of the Associate Director is a learner mindset and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Provides strategic direction, coaching, development, and performance management for the full-time Learning & Development Manager (1) and indirect supervision for the Learning & Design Coordinator (1), Training Coordinator (1), and the part-time staff (14); direct supervision of the full-time Data & Assessment Coordinator (1) and indirect supervision of the part-time data analysts (5); and the Organizational Development Project Coordinator (1) and process specialists (4)
- Develop, implement, and assess the ASI professional development program. Develop and recommend a long-term, sustainable plan for the program
- Develop and provide direction for an equitable, organization-wide learning plan for all staff, including but not limited to individualized learning plan management
- Responsible for ensuring all learning designs incorporate organizational priorities for equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
- Provide strategic direction for the inclusive development, implementation, and evaluation of all learning and development programs within ASI, including identifying training needs based on skills gap analyses, developing group and individual learning courses to improve quality of work, productivity, and retention of staff
- Provide strategic direction for the development, enhancement, and ongoing evaluation of the enterprise learning management system (LMS) and instructional authoring tools to best meet the needs of the organization
- Responsible for creating the strategic evolution of a learning culture through the universal design, and delivery of programs, including, but not limited to; leadership development, management development, employee engagement, and the employee experience
- Provide oversight and strategic direction of the curriculum planning, assessment, and program design of learning initiatives, programs, and tools that is both customized and scalable
- Provide oversight and strategic development of ASI-specific learning via eLearning, microlearning, job aids, blended learning, in-person training, etc., to enhance the skill sets of a diverse staff
- Empower employees, managers, and leaders to feel ownership of their professional and personal growth through inclusive, impactful programming and delivery of self-service and ready-to-use training and professional development toolkits and resources
- Working closely with key stakeholders to support the development, implementation, and assessment of student assistant and internship part-time work (pipeline) preparedness program to support career-readiness
- Prepare, present, and implement the Organizational Development & Assessment area budgets to include managing and meeting expense and revenue goals
- Develops and collaborates on programs and services to help department heads and human resources leadership assess external talent that reflects the skills, competencies, values, and motivation needed to meet current and future needs
- Lead the development of a comprehensive evaluation and assessment strategy of ASI functions, programs, services, and spaces to measure outputs directly related to the impact of ASI
- Lead organizational initiative to streamline data collection, learning, visualization, and analysis for internal and external utilization
- Lead the design of assessment tools, compilation of statistics for analysis of qualitative and quantitative assessment data, and preparing summary reports for internal distribution
- Leverage data to evaluate strategies and programs measuring the achievement of established goals and action plans
- Create standardized metrics and evaluation processes across all internal and external ASI learning programs to ensure a data-driven approach when evaluating and addressing learning needs
- Assess departmental organizational issues and capabilities, identify competency and talent gaps, and develop and execute appropriate strategies and solutions to enhance performance and build people management skills
- Determine and analyze relevant data to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, including the on-the-job application of skills learned, employee engagement, and retention to make recommendations for such training programs
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuous improvement strategies and interventions with a focus on enhancing team performance, facilitating effective meetings and workshops using group process and problem-solving tools and techniques
- Collaborates with department heads to manage change efforts, including but not limited to system, process, and organizational function changes
- Leads the creation and implementation of innovative process strategies and tools that embrace new technology and multi-faceted Lean methodology approaches
- Utilize program evaluation analysis to recommend sustainable and equitable practices to support the mission of ASI and its functions, services, programs, and spaces
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
Minimum Knowledge and Experience:- Master’s degree in Organizational Development, Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Assessment, Business Administration, Education, or other closely related field
- Minimum five years of progressive responsibility in management, supervision, coaching, training, and employee development
- Minimum five years of combined work experience in adult learning & development, curriculum design, content delivery, workshop facilitation, organizational development, change management, and/or data analytics
- Minimum three years of learning management systems (like Canvas) and content delivery software (like Articulate360) use and management
- Lean Six Sigma Certification or equivalent training
- Demonstrated success in managing a multi-faceted team
- Demonstrated ability to influence leadership/management teams and other administrative partners
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement program and service evaluation, relating results to intended organizational impact
- Change management experience (e.g., change planning, communications, workshop development, stakeholder management)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

- Strong data analytics acumen to support initiatives
- Demonstrates a high degree of emotional intelligence and can be flexible and adapt easily
- Global perspective and ability to work with diverse cultures
