Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required with 5+ years related experience working in Higher Education. Minimum of three years of related diversity and inclusion analysis experience. Demonstrated success working on diversity programs with students, is required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • The ideal candidate will have considerable experience planning, developing, implementing programs and events in a university environment. Significant experience with program planning and evaluation, including working with qualitative and quantitative data is required.
  • Demonstrated student engagement, development, and support experience.
  • Familiarity with planning events while working across disparate units and/or programs is critical.
  • A demonstrated history of success working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously, both verbally and written.
  • Master's degree or Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience working on diversity programs with faculty and staff is a plus.

Please note that this position will need to be on campus during the academic year to support student and community events and activities. In addition, the position will require participation in activities and/or events that fall outside normal business hours and/or on weekends, as needed.

This is an in person position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. Salary Range: $85,100 - $146,500
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
Position Description
Specific components of the role include, but are not limited to:
STUDENT SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY BUILDING
Student Support:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students to proactively identify issues related to DIB, bring those to the attention of the Associate Dean and school leadership.
  • Work with DPSA on student programming, including orientation and new admits day.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with student groups, act as resource for student groups on DIB issues.
  • Engage with individual students on problem solving, in close coordination with DPSA, and bring issues to attention of the Associate Dean of DIB and other school leadership, where appropriate.
  • Assist with Public Policy Leadership Conference (PPLC) planning and execution, as requested.
Community Building:
  • Assist Associate Dean with HKS Diversity Committee including setting agendas, facilitating meetings, coordinating, and executing DivCo programming, and report preparation, as requested.
  • Serve on the HKS Dean's Diversity group, university-level heritage month working group, and DPSA student program directors working group.
  • Coordinate and carry out DIB events and programming. Lead and facilitate workshops and develop other learning outlets for the HKS community, as requested.
  • Partner with various HKS offices including Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA), Human Resources (HR), and Departments and Centers to advance DIB initiatives across HKS. Examples include cohosting events, trainings, and other activities.

COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
  • Develop a strategic and proactive dib communications plan to align and engage the HKS community around dib education, engagement, and action.
  • Develop processes and systems to coordinate, centralize, and analyze effectiveness of DIB communications; Coordinate with OCPA to ensure content, format, etc. for all communications follows HKS and HU policies and standards.
  • Regularly update ODIB website and KNET site (both content and design), as directed by Associate Dean.
  • Draft promotional materials for ODIB programs and events.
  • Create and manage DIB content for heritage and history month observances in collaboration with OCPA; Develop and implement events and/or communications related to heritage months.
  • Work with Associate Dean to develop effective communications around diversity at HKS (including reports, infographics, or other visuals, as directed).

DIB MONITORING AND ANALYTICS
  • Coordinate efforts to research and evaluate progress toward HKS DIB goals through effective use and analyses of quantitative and qualitative metrics for ODIB programs and initiatives.
  • Conducting moderate to complex analysis and projection (financial, performance, operational, and statistical) projects on ODIB programs and initiatives, including compilation and arrangement of data, results analysis, charts and other exhibit creation, report preparation, and data accuracy validation. Identify issues or problems with data and make recommendation to remedy errors.
  • Create reports, as requested, to support HKS leadership decision-making.
  • The ability to handle highly sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality is critical.
Qualities of the successful candidate include:
  • Strong written and verbal skills, presentation, and project management skills; ability to interact well with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Well-organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate technical and complex data concepts into easy-to-understand presentations for a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and often complex information with discretion.

Job Summary
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODIB) at Harvard Kennedy School is a dynamic unit that brings behavioral, practice, and analytical insights to the design and implementation of Diversity, inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) programs and initiatives. In particular, the Associate Director of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging will be the student-facing function of the office and responsible for supporting students around DIB issues, activities and coordinating those efforts with the Degree Programs and Student Affairs department (DPSA). Also, this position will perform a wide range of complex programmatic, administrative, analytical, and leadership functions in achieving DIB goals. The Associate Director of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging will play a central role in implementing infrastructure and processes for systematic collection and analysis of DIB data from across HKS. The Associate Director of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging reports directly to the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. We seek candidates experienced with and passionate about student support, community engagement, and DIB programming, including analytics and assessment.
