Position Focus:
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Advancement at the Yale University Art Gallery, the Associate Director of Membership Programs will manage all aspects of the Gallery’s Patrons and free Membership Programs. Conceptualize and execute a revitalized Patrons program that will allow the Gallery to develop a next level philanthropic relationship with potential donors from the membership population. Develop and implement strategies and plans in support of the Gallery’s free membership program, consisting of 15,000+ households. Promote and support Gallery membership to a diverse audience and ensure membership benefits are fulfilled; oversee the membership database; cultivate new memberships at the Gallery and throughout the university; hire, train and supervise bursary students. Work closely and partner with other cross functional Gallery, university and community colleagues on membership program initiatives and activities; maintain daily functionality of the department.
Oversee daily administration of the Gallery’s Membership Programs, including processing of new memberships and updating individual records as needed. Address all concerns and questions of members in a timely and sensitive manner. Plan and help to publicize Members’ and Patrons events and coordinate interaction with Members and Patrons at other Gallery events. Collaborate with other Gallery staff as needed to manage Member activities. Produce monthly Note to Members and manage contributions from other YUAG staff. Partnering with the Advancement colleagues help coordinate, execute, and manage the Gallery’s twice yearly Annual Fund direct mail campaign. Analyze reporting on member information and make recommendations related to giving trends to inform the strategy. Strengthen existing upper-level paid membership program. Manage the program, including planning and executing special events as needed throughout the year. Evaluate existing Membership Programs and make recommendations to be presented to the CORE leadership team in concert with the. Oversee and manage the Raisers Edge database membership procedures and train staff and students to use the system and maintain best practices. Manage bursary students, including hiring, daily supervision, and payment authorization. Work with bursary students in the Gallery’s Visitor Services Department on the procedure for membership requests. Manage and coordinate the College and University Art Museums Reciprocal Program for a consortium of 80 university-based art museums. Solicit new museums to join the program, maintain accurate information to share with the group, serve as representative and organizer for the program on a national basis.
Essential Duties
1. Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. 2. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 3. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. 4. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 5. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 6. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 7. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
B.A. and 3 years development experience or combination of education and experience. Required experience in Microsoft Office, CRM database (Blackbaud), and marketing and email programs (MailChimp). Preferred experience with cloud-based services (Airtable) along with an understanding of social media. Preferred experienced in sales or marketing.
