Job description

Knox College invites applications for the full time, 12-month position of Associate Director of Admission. The Associate Director

of Admission will work within a recruitment territory to achieve a high level of
visibility for the College; identify and recruit well-matched candidates for admission; build relationships with
high school counselors, educational consultants, and alumni; and assist students and their parents in
applying for admission and financial aid.



Essential Functions:

  • Engage daily with prospective students and their parents via phone, text, email, video, and in-person to
    achieve a high level of interaction and build sustained relationships through the college search.
  • Perform a specific number of outbound touchpoints per day.
  • Assist students in assessing match/fit and how Knox could help to achieve their educational goals.
  • Work with families to understand college costs, affordability, and how to apply for scholarships and
    financial aid.
  • Build relationships with high school counselors and educational consultants via phone, text, email,
    video, and in-person. Serve as a key member of the admission team and attend high-level events for
    these constituents.
  • Make in-person and virtual presentations about Knox, conduct interviews, represent Knox at college
    fairs, high school information sessions, and other events.
  • Perform a holistic review of applications for admission, including the qualitative and quantitative

evaluation of transcripts, standardized test scores, essays and written submissions, recommendations,
and other evidence of student preparation, match, and fit with Knox College. Application materials are
reviewed digitally within the Slate admission and document management system; evaluation of
applicants is done by completing forms within that system. May review applications at the Director
Level to make key recommendations or admission decisions.

  • Recruitment travel up to 10-12 weeks per year visiting high schools, attending college fairs, hosting
    information sessions, meeting with school counselors, community based organization advisors, and
    independent educational consultants, and conducting admission interviews for prospective students;
    work evenings and weekends as needed for events and to engage with students and parents. Hours
    can be long, and varied.
  • This position often entails working evenings and weekends a minimum of 15-

20% of the time.

  • Represent Knox during key consortium and national recruitment events such as The
    Colleges That Change Lives, The Associated Colleges of the Midwest, and the Coalition for College
    Consortium.
  • Work alongside a direct supervisor to achieve application and enrollment goals for each assigned
    market.
  • Provide significant contributions to the strategy and development of each assigned market.
  • Regularly engage with, and help support the Campus Visit Team with prospective student visits to
    campus.
  • Give presentations, conduct informational meetings and admission interviews, and assist with
    large campus visit programs as assigned. Serve as a key figure during events and large prospective
    student visit days.
  • Serve in a leadership capacity for the admission counseling team, develop and lead trainings and play a key role in the hiring and onboarding of new admission counseling staff members, lead meetings as needed, and take on multiple key recruitment projects each year which could also include vendorrelationship and collaboration.
  • A Senior Associate Director of Admission would also have the ability to

supervise another member or members of the admission counseling team.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and public speaking abilities; and talent for developing
relationships with multiple constituencies.
Experience with and passion for creating virtual engagement, social media, video, digital
communications, and online events.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to organize and prioritize work, manage complex tasks, and complete multiple projects on time
while working independently and having the resourcefulness, flexibility, and initiative to adapt to
constant change.
Must possess and be able to convey a strong appreciation and articulate the value of a residential
liberal arts education; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusions; and respect for individual
differences and an openness to values and opinions of others.
Ability to travel up to 10-12 weeks per year.
Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
Provide leadership and support for the admission counseling team.


Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree


Minimum Experience Required:

  • 5 years of experience in higher or secondary education, college admission, direct sales and marketing,
    digital communications, or related fields.
  • Those with more than 8 years may be considered for the title

of Senior Associate Director.


Minimum Licenses/Certifications Required:
Driver's License Required


Additional Qualifications:
Previous direct admission counseling and recruiting experience preferred.
