JOB SUMMARY

The University of North Georgia’s (UNG) College of Education is conducting an internal search for an accomplished, creative leader to serve as the Associate Dean of Student Support Services. The Associate Dean will partner with college leadership and units and departments across the institution to formulate and implement strategies supporting student success and retention and preparing graduates to be successful educational leaders.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean of Student Support Services serves as a member of the College’s leadership team. The Associate Dean coordinates efforts centered on Student Support and success across our departments and manages staff positions falling under the umbrella of Student Support, including program admissions and field and clinical placement. This 12-month position will begin July 1, 2024, and the Associate Dean would be required to report to campus from the hours of 8:00 - 5:30 Monday through Friday and 8:00 - 3:00 on Fridays (*summer hours differ).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in education;
  • A minimum of three years of successful administrative experience;
  • Professional, scholarly, and educational accomplishments commensurate with the level of associate or full professor; and
  • Required qualifications to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in one of the COE’s departments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Banner (or similar SIS), office technologies, and systems supporting instructional delivery;
  • Demonstrated success in promoting student retention and graduation;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in promoting the reputation of academic programs;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; and
  • Evidence of the ability to make strategic, evidence-based decisions in a culture of open communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Recommends, develops, and implements student services policies, procedures, and practices that promote student learning and student success and ensure a student-centered environment;
  • Provides leadership and guidance for the recruitment and retention of Students, actively recruits for the College, and works to promote retention and student success;
  • Assumes leadership for establishing an environment that promotes respect for students and recognizes excellence;
  • Prepares appropriate reports, analyzes and evaluates enrollment and retention data, and projects student enrollment and retention data to be used in decision making;
  • Manages Student Support staff and related offices, including Program Admissions and Field and Clinical Placements;
  • Leads, coordinates, and helps evaluate the Core Experience for Students spanning the first two years of our students’ college experience;
  • Leads and coordinates the Student Conduct and Academic and Professional Development Process including assisting the college with strengthening ways to monitor candidate progress, examining and assessing performance on non-academic factors such as critical dispositions and professional responsibilities, assisting with student communications regarding progress monitoring points, and assisting with identifying support mechanisms for students not meeting program expectations;
  • Leads the development and maintenance of a process for student complaints/appeals as per accreditation requirements; and
  • Leads and coordinates expansion of our field and clinical footprint, helping to develop and maintain policies related to special programming and field and clinical placements (i.e., paraprofessional to teacher programming, residency programming, provisional certification students).
