Position Summary
The Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University invites a tenured professor holding the rank Associate or Full Professor in Music or Ballet to serve as Associate Dean forAcademic Affairs and Student Success.
Applicants should have a strong understanding of curriculum, accreditation, and have a demonstrated commitment to the success of the Jacobs School of Music (JSoM) students including their wellness, mental health, and career preparation. The Associate Dean forAcademic Affairs and Student Success will serve as a liaison between JSoM and the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, the Dean of Students, the JSoM Director of Graduate Studies, the JSoM Director of Undergraduate Studies, and the Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development. In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing and supporting academic programs, new degree and course initiatives, and matters of accreditation. In addition, the Associate Dean forAcademic Affairs and Student Success will provide oversight and strategic direction for Student Success in both the undergraduate and graduate populations, closing the equity gap for under-represented students, first generation, Pell eligible, rural and urban students, oversight of health and wellness initiatives including student mental health support, and matters of related to student misconduct.
Additional responsibilities include: final authority on schedule builds and course offerings (including cancellations); final authority on satisfactory academic progress; oversight of academic discipline and fairness cases; load reports and overloads; course evaluations and peer observations; curriculum revision and development; study abroad liaison for music and ballet students; strategicoversight of Music for General Studies and non-major offerings; facilitates communication regarding academic matters between the school and other schools, units and organizations both inside and outside Indiana University; and supervises the publication of the school bulletin. The Associate Dean will continue to demonstrate an active profile in research and scholarly activities.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Terminal degree in relevant field.
• Appointment at the rank of associate or full professor
• A record of successful course development and curricular innovation.
• A strong record of teaching and pedagogical advancement in the applicant's field of study.
• Proven commitment to helping students succeed and grow in their respective fields.
• Demonstrated record of advocating for and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Demonstrated record of experience building collaborative relationships within complex institutions and external communities.
