The Associate Athletics Director, Technical Development is a highly impactful role in the Department of Athletics and is a critical partner to the leaders and departments across the greater IMG Academy organization. This leadership role reports directly to the Vice President, Athletics and requires commitment to our purpose of ensuring student-athletes win their future.
Working within one of the most successful athletic departments in the world, this role will work across all sport programs and in close partnership with sport leadership. There is an emphasis on having practices, processes, and accountabilities in place that ensures standard of sport programming and experience is unrivaled. This includes sport curriculum development and adherence, sport program team and group structures, schedules, coach professional development, use of technology, and integration with the Athletic and Personal Development Program.
Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the systematic implementation of player development and all training programs across Athletics delivery
  • Work in strong partnership with Sport Directors and Technical Directors, ensuring that coaching and training programs are in line with established key principles, methodology, and standards.
  • In partnership with Sport Directors, design and implement consistent and appropriate team and training group structure across each sport ensuring each team/group has and meets established goals and purpose.
  • Annually measure success of each group and team against established department and sport objectives.
  • Work with Sport Directors on development and review of competition scheduling throughout each sport program
  • Responsible for the NPS scores to sport training, coaching, and competition across all Athletics programmatic delivery
  • Strong partner with Athletic & Personal Development Department in creating annual training plans and ensuring unrivaled integration across all training components (Strength &Conditioning, Mental Performance, Leadership, Athletic Training, Nutrition, etc.)
  • Create and implement standards and expectations across sport programs for utilization of Athlete Management System and other key technology/systems utilized during training. Including but not limited to daily usage, student-athlete and parent reports, coach inputs, etc.
  • Be the lead within Athletics and organizational partner specific to technology, video, and other systems to enhance training practices. Monitor and manage proper utilization while creating accountability within sport programs.
  • Develop, evaluate, modify, and actively implement a robust coaching education program to meet the specific and varied demands for IMG Academy coaches.
  • Collaborate with Sport Directors and HR on all staffing items including coach recruitment, on-boarding, and determining proper coach ratios for each sport program and programmatic delivery.
  • Oversee Athletics video staff and work across all sport programs.
  • Foster programs that include development, periodization, operational excellence in delivery, coaching education, innovative training, and best practices
  • Monitor international sport development and participation trends.
  • Be an active and contributing participant in the development and implementation of the Academy’s strategic plan.
  • Assist VP Athletics in ensuring that all sport program delivery is consistent with the Academy’s vision, mission, and philosophy.
  • Lead various research projects, analyze information, and compile findings to enhance decision-making by management.
  • Maintain consistency in operation of all sport programs.
  • Act as liaison between Sport Directors, Program Managers, Advisors & other staff across campus.
  • Assist in development of candidate pools for various Academy positions.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring and management of athletics staff.
  • Maintain supervision, evaluations and consistent feedback to athletic staff and coaches.
  • Travels to off-campus events as needed.
  • Adhere to all rules of governing agencies including NCAA and FHSAA.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and business ethic codes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
  • 7+ years of post-education experience in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in athletic administration
  • Ability to bring business orientation and operational excellence while maintaining a dynamic work environment.
  • A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced organization.
  • A superior work ethic
  • Desire to work collaboratively with colleagues and to develop a positive culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in business, Sports Management, Education, or related field
  • Experience as a collegiate or professional student-athlete
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required.
  • This role is considered essential and may be required to work during weather emergencies or business closures to meet operational requirements.
