Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Actuary to join our Healthcare and Global Actuarial Team in our Chicago, New York, or Atlanta office. We are looking for an individual who has both an ability to excel and an excellence of character. As part of the North American Healthcare Team, this teammate will be responsible for large account pricing as well as in depth analyses for use in our models. This role works closely with teammates in Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, and IT, providing broad exposure to a range of functional areas and the chance to significantly impact an evolving line of business. The focus of work is medical professional liability, however this team sits within our NA Healthcare and Casualty group and there is potential for exposure to general and auto liability at the teammate’s interest.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Price individual, large hospital and senior care accounts, working closely with underwriting throughout the process and effectively communicating insights into account and venue performance
• Analyze loss and exposure information to help derive proprietary pricing factors
• Assist in research and evaluation of new pricing methodologies, products, or venues
• Maintain and improve pricing tools to ensure quality and ease of use for teammates in Actuarial and Underwriting
• Collaborate effectively with the actuarial data and analytics team to enhance processes and maintain a high standard of data integrity
• Collaborate with offshore resources to improve business processes and increase efficiency

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• near-ACAS to FCAS
• 4-10 years of experience in an actuarial role, preferably in commercial insurance
• Proficiency in SQL and Excel strongly preferred
• Proficiency in R and VBA preferred
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
• Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates
• Effective time management, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time

The base salary range for this position in New York is from $130,000.00 to $200,000.00, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience.
