Title: Staff Accountant or Accountant FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Senior Accountant/Partner
I. Purpose of Position
Guide the performance of designated audit engagement plans. Instruct and supervise staff assigned to an engagement and evaluate the quality of their work. Perform audit, tax, and/or accounting procedures.
II. Duties & Responsibilities
-Become familiar with the Firm's policies and procedures. -
-Understand the rules, regulations and code of professional conduct of the AICPA.
- Progress professionally by working toward passing the CPA exam as soon as possible.
- If assigned primarily to tax and/or audit engagements.
-Become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations.
-Obtain a working knowledge of research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library. -Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns prepared by the firm. -May assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision or more experienced staff.
- If assigned primarily to financial statements engagement.
- Become familiar with authoritative professional pronouncements.
-Become proficient at preparing financial statements.
-Obtain exposure to the types of financial statement engagements offered by the firm.
- Assume responsibility for unaudited financial statement engagements or segments of audits under the supervision of more experienced staff.
III. Knowledge & Experience
- Individuals at this level normally have a college degree with a major in accounting or other related business field.
IV. Skills, Abilities, Qualifications or Expectations
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects, independently or with other staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Accurately work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, percentages, fractions, and ratios.
- Capable of objective feedback, coaching, and problem solving.
- Strong time management skills in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of Firm and client information.
V. Environmental Conditions
- Normal office environment.
VI. Equipment & Tools
Daily use of computer, telephone, calculator, copier, fax, scanner, and printer.
**This position may be required to work weekends depending on workflow and busy seasons.
