TITLE: Assistant Women’s Basketball CoachDEPARTMENT: Athletics REPORTS TO: Head Women’s Basketball Coach EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time (seasonal)EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach to teach, recruit, and mentor the Women’s Basketball student-athletes.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Reporting to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coaching, facilitating, organization, direction, management and administration as well as fundraising, budgeting, recruitment and retention of student–athletes at a NCAA Division II institution. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist with organization, direction, and administration of Women’s Basketball ProgramIdentify and recruit academically and athletically talented student–athletes for the programCoach/Teach athletes and assist with day–to–day program responsibilities as directed by the Head Women’s Basketball CoachMaintain stats and other data pertinent to the operation of the Women’s Basketball programComply with NCAA/SIAC rules and regulations and support NCAA Division II/SIAC Philosophy and MissionProvide a positive experience to the student–athletePromote program (on campus, in the community, outside the community –speeches to local organizations, player volunteer work, camps, etc.)Monitor academic performance of student athletesCreate a culture for success at a NCAA Division II institutionAttain/Maintain CPR/AED/ and Coaching CertificationAssist with playoffs (if hosting)Professional Development –annually attend clinics or do other things to better your coaching abilityAssist with fundraising strategies to support annual operating budgetRepresent the University on and off the field in a positive fashion. Maintain appropriate relationships and communicate appropriately with Alumni, SA’s, Team, Coaching Staff, Community, and SIACOrganize community service for Student AthletesSubmit logistical details for travel and provide information for ordering uniforms and equipment.Other duties as assigned by Head Women’s Basketball Coach. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of and experience in recruitment of student-athletes.Demonstrate knowledge on developing, monitoring and managing team budget. • Knowledge of organizing and coordinating team travel maintaining budget guidelines.Demonstrate knowledge on reconciling team expenditures according to university and athletic policies and procedures.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of athletic department procedures and compliance guidelines of the SIAC and the NCAA Division II rules and regulations.Demonstrate good communication skills. Demonstrate a complete knowledge of First- Aid techniques. QUALIFICATIONS:Earned Bachelor's degree.Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience at intercollegiate or professional level SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors. Duties will require travel in personal or College owned vehicle. Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Moderate physical activity is required with occasional lifting of objects, carrying or dragging objects approximately 40 pounds.
