Position Overview
The Office of General Counsel provides legal support to numerous programs to assist senior Illinoisans and disabled adults stay in their homes rather than going into a nursing facility. We provide legal advice and counsel to all levels of IDoA staff regarding legislation, rulemaking, programmatic/operational issues and various processes (including procurement, grants, agreements, contracts and appeals). We are looking for a responsible confidential Assistant to support our work. Job Responsibilities
1. Performs as a confidential assistant to the General Counsel.
2. Responds to Subpoenas and Authorizations for Release of Information inquiries, preliminary discovery, appeals, and hearings.
3. Performs independent activities to assist in the meeting of timeframes related to the activities of the Office of the General Counsel, including Departmental rulemaking, Civil Rights Complaints, Freedom of Information Act requests, appeals, and contract actions.
4. Confers with and acts as liaison with other government office representatives, businesses, and the public.
5. Handles all administrative functions of the Office of the General Counsel, including the receipt, screening, and routing of mail and email, requests for information, meetings, etc.
6. Performs other duties, as required, or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
2. Requires two years of professional experience in a public or private organization.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers three years of experience demonstrating appropriate handling of confidential information.
2. Prefers two years of experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
3. Prefers one year of experience demonstrating working knowledge of redacting documents using Adobe Professional.
4. Prefers one year of experience demonstrating working knowledge of remote collaboration software such as Webex.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Requires monthly local travel and minimal travel statewide
