The key goal of the Assistant Store Leader at QuickChek is to be responsible for the smooth operation of the store in the absence of the Store Leader. This individual assists in the selection, training, leading, and developing of all store Team Members. The Assistant Store Leader is responsible for ordering product, reducing shrink, tracking sales, practicing loss prevention techniques, controlling cost of goods, maintaining store standards, and reducing inventory costs. Ensuring all QCez guidelines are being followed and making sure every customer receives exceptional TCD during each visit also falls within the responsibilities of the Assistant Store Leader. The individual must be able to delegate and oversee tasks to Team Members, stay up-to-date on policies and procedures, and follow proper vendor, cash handling, timekeeping, payroll, and sanitation procedures.
This job is a full time, hourly position consisting of five 9-hour shifts per week. Essential availability includes first, second, and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional double-shifts.
- Provide exceptional customer service and tend to customers in a prompt, efficient, friendly manner
- Maintain a focus on increasing sales
- Demonstrate a proficiency in Food Service Operations
- Resolve customer complaints and inquiries
- Promote a fresh, friendly, and clean store image (sweep, mop, and clean, as necessary)
- Maintain freshness of all products (bakery, food service, branded, dairy, etc.)
- Ensure the safety of all customers and Team Members
- Keep up-to-date on new policies and procedures
- Attend and participate in all mandatory/scheduled store meetings
- Recruit and hire new Team Members in the absence of the Store Leader
- Develop and train Team Members in essential job functions and encourage growth
- Enforce and practice all company policies, including loss prevention policies
- Delegates, oversees, and ensures the completion of all work assignments
- Conduct performance conversations, as needed, and up to termination, if necessary
- Communicate with vendors to resolve in stock/delivery issues and document
- Ensure compliance of daily CAO counts, pricing accuracy, shelf tags, and sales plan signage, and be 100% in stock on all Center Store products
- Order inventory, as needed, to ensure in-stock conditions are met
- Check in vendor deliveries and pack out according to company procedure
- Periodically check all equipment for proper operation
- Recognize Team Members for positive results
- Ensure execution of QCez checklists
- Prepare Cash and Sales Reports and make bank deposits, as required
- Verify cash and lottery at the beginning and end of every shift
- Perform safe checks and balance cash at the beginning and end of every shift
- Open and close the store, as necessary
- Maintain low shrink by reducing waste and spoilage, controlling Team Member, customer, and vendor theft, and ensuring accuracy of paperwork
- Cover or provide coverage for assigned Team Member breaks and call-outs
- Monitors, closes, and transmits weekly payroll, as needed
- Administer McLane Reclamation program, as directed
- Ensure execution of displays/shippers, promotional merchandising, planogram resets, and proper product rotation
Fuel Operations (Fuel Stores ONLY):
- Ability to manage the fuel operations in the absence of the Fuel Leader
- Maintain thorough understanding of environmental requirement and be able to effectively respond to a spill
- Have a thorough understanding of the Fuel Site Walk Around Checklist

- High school graduate or college degree
- Food service and/or retail management experience
- Completion of required training programs and learning activities including Food Service Certification
- Serv-Safe certified; maintains certified status
- Must have personal vehicle for required banking, safety, and meeting attendance
- Ability to maintain QuickChek grooming and hygiene standards
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand basic English
