JASSISTANT GROWER – SOD PRODUCTION

Starting in 1988 with just a few acres, Vandemark Sod Farm has expanded greatly and is now a primary sod supplier to Wake County and the surrounding area. For 35 years, our family-owned business has enjoyed a reputation for the best sod quality, selection and service to the Triangle. Our main product is turf, which we provide to the landscaping industry, as well as, athletic fields and golf courses across North Carolina. We grow, harvest and ship six types of sod from our Whitakers and Spring Hope locations. The Assistant Grower position is full time, year round position. JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Grower is responsible for the day to do upkeep of our 600 acre Whitakers farm. Applicants must have a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and be dependable. The Assistant Grower will be exposed to all aspects of sod farm operations including but not limited to sod production, sprigging, mowing, fertilizing, spraying, calibration, and irrigation. The Assistant Grower will be responsible for completing tasks that are assigned. The primary tasks of the position include:

· Sod production including cultivation and planting

· Use of chemicals in weed and disease management

· Irrigation use, management and repair

· Mowing of grass

· 2 year agriculture degree preferred

· Farm experience required

· Turfgrass management experience preferred

· Knowledge of sod farming is a plus

· Ability to operate tractors (60-125 Horsepower)

· Willingness and ability to be trained in all phases of company operations

· Must be a motivated self-starter

· Valid NC driver’s license required

· Ability to multi-task and solve problems

· High level of quality control IQ

· Assist with other jobs on the farm, as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 55 per week

Experience:

• Farm machinery: 5 years (Required)
• Irrigation: 5 years (Required)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
• Pesticide Applicator’s License (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• Whitakers, NC: Relocate before starting work (Required)
