Assistant Shop Head - Grounds Division

Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for an Assistant Shop Head in the Grounds Division of  Facilities and Engineering.  This role will be responsible for the following:

• Assist with the planning and organization of all grounds work including; scheduling, completion and follow-up inspections.
• Maintain and repairs the following: blowers, weedeaters, mowers (to include two cycle motors) and other grounds equipment. 
• Assist with the supervision of all college set ups for special events and parades; ensure barracks, college furniture, and equipment moves are accomplished safely and as requested.
• Assist with the supervision of all grounds personnel through line responsibilities.
• Assist with managing the Turf maintenance program.
• Orders spare parts and supplies for the Grounds Department.
• Entry and closure of work orders.
• Responsible to assure health, safety standards and precautions are in compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Responsible for general irrigation repair maintenance; maintaining and trouble-shooting irrigation clocks on multiple irrigation systems

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess a valid SC Driver's license. High School diploma or GED and experience in Turf management practices, mowing, aerating, verticutting, topdressing, fertilizing, overseeding and watering.  Must have a minimum of two(2) years' experience repairing grounds related equipment. Must be able to use fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Must be able to perform simple irrigation system maintenance, scheduling, and repairs.   Must have knowledge of work methods, equipment, and procedures to assure health and safety standards and precautions are in compliance with State DHEC and Federal OSHA requirements.  Must have high attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and like working in a team environment. Must be able to multitask and perform jobs in a timely manner. Computer experience is required.  Some overtime, weekend and holiday work is required. Must be able to work outside in cold/heat and humidity extremes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two(2) or more years of experience working/supervising a crew of 5 or more is desired.
