What We Are Looking For
The Assistant Research Scientist, Lake and River Biogeochemistry will be responsible for conducting research through the Department of Biology and Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research. The candidate must be a self-starter and work well in a team environment. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse research team, lead independent projects and collaborate on other projects, as well as secure grant funding and publish peer-reviewed research.
A Ph.D. in Biology, Environmental Science, Geosciences, or a closely related field is required. 1-3 years of professional research experience (postdoc or above) is also required. Candidates should possess a clear record of research success as indicated by timely peer-reviewed publications in their discipline. Evidence of success in extramural funding is preferred.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Baylor is a Christian University, and the successful applicant should have a clear fit with the university mission.
What You Will Do
- Conduct collaborative research on the biogeochemistry, ecology, and/or water quality of lakes and/or rivers.
- Collaborations with university faculty across academic units but within Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research.
- Overseeing undergraduate and graduate student, postdoctoral, and other technical staff research activities.
- Publish peer reviewed manuscripts every year and secure extramural funding to support research. Research at the level of Assistant Research Scientist is mostly independent but partially overseen by a faculty mentor. There will be an expectation of progressing to completely independent research at the rank of Associate Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist.
