JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Project Manager will, under general supervision from the Engineering Manager, perform support for the professional design and construction project management work associated with capital improvement projects by the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority (GFIAA) that are both airfield and landside (typically civil) and architectural improvements with various technical elements. The Assistant Project Manager’s responsibilities will include coordinating with different departments to ensure projects are completed on time. This role is also responsible for performing administrative tasks such as preparing invoices, building estimates, and scheduling and conducting meetings as needed. Ultimately, you will work with various teams and stakeholders to monitor project progress and provide oversight to ensure projects are completed promptly and within budget while minimizing operational impacts.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrate GFIAA’s core values and strategic goals into all areas of responsibility.
  • Research information to support other teams and departments as needed.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders concerning project details and deliverables.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as reviewing invoices and estimates, scheduling meetings, etc.
  • Monitor and report on project progress.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Engineering Manager and Project Managers in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Assist in life cycle calculations for projects and systems.
  • Coordinate the preparation of project design and contract documents.
  • Support, coordinate, and collaborate with GFIAA project controls functions including:
    1. Support the establishment of design and construction budgets for each project and monitor expenditures for conformance to those budgets.
    2. Support the establishment of design and construction schedules and monitor progress of various projects and their conformance to design and construction schedules.
    3. Manage and coordinate the change management process for assigned projects.
    4. Manage and coordinate the mitigation of risks as uniquely defined for assigned projects.
    5. Manage and coordinate the payment process for assigned projects.
    6. Actively participate in document management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

This position is tailored to entry level Project Managers including recent graduates.

A typical manner of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a field-related industry such as construction management, engineering, or other related fields; Aviation experience will be considered but is not required. Aviation related duties will be supported by other Authority staff. Other requirements include:

  • Proven work experience as an Assistant Project Manager or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask and oversee several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Maintain a valid state driver’s license.

NOTES:

  1. Candidate must be able to pass required FBI fingerprint-based criminal history record check in addition to pre-hire and random drug and alcohol screenings.
  2. Candidate must maintain an appropriate level airport badge at all times.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess or obtain within six months of hire a State of Michigan certification as an Industrial Storm Water Management Operator.
  • Obtain a Certificate of Project Management within six months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In the performance of the duties of this job, the incumbent:

  • Is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop and kneel; use hands to manipulate electronic keyboard, finger, handle, grasp or feel; use hands and arms to reach forward and at shoulder level.
  • Is regularly required to talk and hear in order to communicate in person and by telephone, computer, or radio.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Airport.
  • Must frequently lift and/or exert force up to ten pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Possess at least minimum corrected vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus vision enough to read printed materials, charts, graphs, instrument scales/readout devices and a computer screen.
  • Is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time and to move about the work site and off-site locations.

  • Work is generally performed within an office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
  • May be required to work outdoors when calibrating monitoring equipment and/or observing conditions and equipment. Aircraft noise, fuel fumes and vibrations are conditions frequently encountered.
  • The incumbent typically operates a telephone, computer keyboard and standard office equipment such as copier and electronic calculator.
  • Twice weekly remote work is possible as long as it does not interfere with daily work activities and scheduled work commitments.
