TITLE: Assistant Project Manager


REPORTS TO: Project Manager


LOCATION: Remote (with preference for applicants living in North Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, or Minnesota)


STATUS: Full Time (Exempt)


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Possibly (for site-based staff, and resident outreach workers, interns or practicum students)

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Project Manager to plan and direct all aspects of the organizational strategy for ensuring that the families of the target areas are stable and thriving. The Assistant Project Manager will establish results-oriented and effective working relationships with clients and other key community partners.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Partnership Development and Cultivation

  • Assist with the research, identification, and engagement of high-impact partners that have the ability or with the capacity building will have the ability to meet the programmatic goals in assigned communities.
  • Across multiple sites, utilize the Results-Based Framework to engage and lead residents and partners from the private, nonprofit, public and private sectors and support them in development and implementation of high-action results-based plans to drive equitable outcomes.
  • Support the Project Manager in developing and sustaining new working relationships with key partner organizations, philanthropy, and government with resources to support programmatic goals.


2. Reporting Requirements

  • In consultation with the Project Manager, develop and implement a results-oriented Action Plan for the target areas. The Action Plan must align with the overall programmatic goals and be consistent with program philosophies and the articulated vision for the community.
  • Assist the Project Manager in tracking and reporting programmatic outcomes and engage in ongoing evaluation of progress to ensure each community meets project objectives and other project requirements.
  • Assist the Project Manager in monitoring the productivity of all data entered into the LEARN Performance Management System to prepare reports and document progress toward programmatic goals.


3. Sustainability and Capacity Building

  • Facilitate community building, leadership training, and capacity-building activities using a Results-Based framework to strengthen and expand the ability of residents of the target community, local government, and other local partners to contribute to equitable neighborhood transformation.
  • Support sustainability planning, fundraising, and resource development efforts as directed, including through ongoing identification of potential partnerships and funding opportunities, and assisting with writing grant or project proposals.


4. Administrative

  • Manage project contracts and budgets, and be accountable for expenditures to Director of Finance.
  • Develop and present or publish internal and external reports to stakeholders and partners.
  • Actively participate in Urban Strategies program meetings and other meetings related to the project.
  • Be available to occasionally work nights and/or weekends, and travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or experience required:


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • One year of work experience in the not-for-profit or human services sector, demonstrating progressively higher levels of responsibility for managing all aspects of a project or program, overseeing partnerships and contracts, and supervising a team of individuals.
  • Extensive experience with economic and community development as well as experience with policy change initiatives required.


Skills and/or competencies required:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to communicate effectively with all members of a diverse stakeholder group, from residents to professionals and executives.
  • Must be comfortable and effective in facilitating group processes.
  • Must have ability to set vision, lead, and empower team members, residents, and service partners.
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and to base program designs on resident-driven and data-driven rationale.
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both participants and fellow employees.
  • Must excel in a fast-paced environment with multiple service locations and a broad set of diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse persons and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Passion for community building and ability to share that enthusiasm with residents, staff and the larger community.
  • The ability to work independently and with initiative, combined with skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve shared goals.
  • The ability to develop and balance a program/project budget.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite (Advanced MS Excel), and other commonly used software.
