Description

The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia is seeking a full-timeAssistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Human Services beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a two-year position with the possibility of conversion to tenure-track. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional potential as a teacher-scholar who can contribute to our undergraduate programs and complement existing departmental strengths.

Specific Job Duties:

Teaching responsibilities include some combination of the following regularly offered courses: Social Problems, Social Life in America, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, The Individual in Society, Research Methods, and Marriage and Family. Candidates who can teach courses in the Human Services minor and/or are interested in developing a Sociology of Health course are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Teaching Load:

  • The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester, consisting of general education and upper-level courses.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • A PhD in sociology, social work, or a related discipline by August 1, 2024.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong abilities in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Previous teaching experience is desired.
  • A primary interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduates at a liberal arts institution is required.
