Assistant Professor of Professional Practicein the Applied Learning Sciences

The Department of Teaching and Learning (TAL), University of Miami (UM) School of Education and Human Development (SEHD), is conducting a search for an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice to play a key role in our vibrant and growing graduate programs in the Applied Learning Sciences (https://bulletin.miami.edu/graduate-academic-programs/education-human-development/teaching-learning/applied-learning-sciences-edd/). We wish to hire an outstanding educator with relevant academic expertise, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and real-world experience in learning design, innovation, and technology in both formal and informal settings. Candidates should possess an earned doctoral degree (or be in candidacy with degree expected no later than the date of hire) in Learning Sciences, Education, or a related field and have experience teaching online higher education courses, preferably at the graduate level.

The position begins August 15, 2024.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of online as well as in-person course offerings in the Applied Learning Sciences program and beyond, focusing on topics such as the design of online learning environments, design for workplace learning, and affective, relational, and cultural factors in learning. Importantly, they will work collaboratively with other TAL faculty to ensure that the program continues to attract and serve the needs of a highly diverse population of graduate students who will go on to design effective learning environments for settings that could include schools, colleges, businesses, and community organizations. Over time, the successful candidate may accede to the position of Program Director and be responsible for ongoing program development and quality assurance. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in Departmental and university service commensurate with rank, and perform other duties as outlined in the UM Faculty Manual. The position is renewable and promotable based upon performance and continuing need of the Department, the SEHD, and the University.

Candidates should submit the following materials electronically via the UM portal: 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) teaching statement and relevant evidence of teaching quality if available, 4) statement describing prior experiences/activities and/or ideas for promoting diversity and inclusion, 5) names and complete contact information for three references. The search committee will solicit recommendations from references as it reviews applications. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
