Position Description

San Francisco State University, Department/School of Nursing offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Community Health beginning August 7, 2024.

We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests may include but are not necessarily limited to: the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on health outcomes; global imperatives to dismantle structures of racism that inhibit health equity; social justice advocacy; and, population-focused, culturally responsive, practice-based and intervention-driven research focused on intersectionality and/or underserved and marginalized populations. Scholarship may also include health promotion, wellness, disease and injury prevention, informatics, and multi-modal methods of chronic disease management at the population level as well as use of the social ecological model with emphasis on upstream interventions as one of the theoretical underpinnings.

We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service -- to the diversity and excellence of our academic community/department/program.

Required qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal academic degree in nursing or a related field (Ed.D., DNP).
Candidates must be eligible for or have an active, unencumbered RN license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Candidates must have a strong background in public/Community Health work.
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching.
Candidates must have experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring nursing students, particularly from minoritized and underserved communities. They must have a commitment to equity in teaching and the promotion of diversity.
Candidates must have strong communication, writing, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Candidates must be able to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively, and show evidence of interpersonal skills and collegiality.
Candidates must have an active record of and demonstrate excellence in scholarship related to their specialty area.
Candidates must have experience or demonstrated commitment to service or research activities that engage underrepresented communities within the discipline.
Candidates must have experience or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural or interprofessional communication and collaboration.
Candidates are preferred who have research interests that contribute to diversity and equity within the discipline and healthcare sphere.

About the School of Nursing
The School of Nursing educates and empowers nurses to be agents of change to transform health care. We commit to co-create change by deconstructing, disrupting, and dismantling systems of oppression through the nursing profession. We have over 50 years of experience in nursing education and offer a wide range of Nursing programs. We have programs that will assist the student to become a professional nurse with a BSN and programs that will assist experienced nurses to continue with specialized advanced practice. We currently have over 500 students advancing through our six programs.
Our faculty includes skilled clinicians and advanced practice registered nurses as well as outstanding scholars and educators. Faculty have designed rigorous curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with innovative classroom, clinical, simulation and community experiences to prepare our students to promote health and alleviate suffering for the global community of the 21st century.
 
Responsibilities:
The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in Community Health, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in one's area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.
 
 
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is
$92,000 to $94,000 annually (12 monthly payments per academic year).
 
The anticipated hiring range is $92,004 to $93,996 annually.
($7,667 to $7,833 per month)
 
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California.
Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm).
 
Professional development funds, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
