Assistant Or Associate Professor Or Instructor In Criminal Justice

The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor or an Instructor position, beginning August 2024.  The position requires teaching courses on campus/ in person, within our bachelor's and associate degree programs in Criminal Justice, Public Safety Administration, and Conservation Law Enforcement. 

The programs at UMFK are Bachelor of Science and/or Associate of Arts degree programs with an emphasis on experiential, field-oriented, and law enforcement education. While both degrees focus on  public service and/or law enforcement fields, the Conservation Law Enforcement program includes an environmental focus. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 12 credit hours per academic semester in support of the program and must be able to teach a diverse range of field and lecture courses in the Conservation and Law Enforcement disciplines. Courses taught may include Conservation Law, Conservation and Environmental History, Grant Writing, Environmental Policy, Introduction to Public Safety or other courses in the discipline. When determining teaching assignments, the chosen candidate's individual interests and expertise will be considered if possible. Additional responsibilities include developing curricula and new courses, advising students, participating in Unit affairs, university service and scholarship. Commitment to quality undergraduate teaching required; experience with developing student learning and program outcomes, assessment, distance learning and grant writing highly desirable.

• Actively engages in student advising and mentorship. 
• Participates in curricular development  (including but not limited to high impact practices); assessment; and service to the department, college, and university.  Contributes to and provides leadership in academic and professional communities and promotes collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 Starting salary is $48,079 for Instructor level, $57,806 for Assistant Professor and $65,912 for Associate Professor level, based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.  Minimum qualifications for hire at the Instructor level (note: Instructor should be promoted within four years to a higher rank in order to be considered for tenure):

• Master's degree in a related field.
• A minimum of five years practical experience in Criminal Justice, conservation law, public administration or a related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of students and staff.
• Demonstrated scholarship. 

Minimum qualifications for hire at the Assistant Professor level:

• Highest degree traditional to discipline 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of students and staff.
• Three years of college level teaching. 
• Practical experience in Criminal Justice, conservation law, public administration or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated scholarship.

Minimum qualifications for hire at the Associate Professor level:

• Highest degree traditional to discipline 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of students and staff.
• Six years of college level teaching. 
• Practical experience in Criminal Justice, conservation law, public administration or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated scholarship.
