Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Nurse Manager Operating Room - LOH. In this role, the successful candidate provides clinical leadership and coordination for perioperative patient care in the OR consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, Department of Nursing, and Perioperative Services. Prioritizes and coordinates related patient care activities; ensures competencies of OR staff; provides coordination of equipment, supplies and resources for efficient planning, safe delivery of care and highly functional Operating Rooms. Serves as a positive role model as a nursing leader. Demonstrates ability to develop, guide, motivate, nurture and coach others. Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees and quality initiatives. Possess strong interpersonal communication skills, customer service orientation and creative problem solving. Demonstrates nursing leadership by competently performing as group service leader, and clinical expert. Actively participates in related professional organizations that provide networking and benchmarking opportunities. Exhibits physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities. Is clinically competent to provide care to patient population for which care is provided.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Collaborates with Clinical Manager and Director to support unit-based quality and performance improvement activities consistent with the service and departmental plan.
    • Functions as a respectful member of the health care team.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities.
    • Demonstrates a spirit of collaboration and effective cooperation with other departments within the hospital.
    • Assist with compliance with standards and regulations for agencies pertinent to the unit or clinical service.
    • Promotes excellent customer service for patients, physicians, and others by ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
    • Seeks consultation from Director, Clinical Manager and/or Human Resources in implementing disciplinary measures up to and including termination for cause.
    • Provides input to Clinical Manager for formal performance appraisal for staff assigned to unit.
    • Guides, develops and councils staff regarding practice and performance standards. Holds staff accountable to institutional and departmental policies/procedures.
    • Adheres to the AORN standards, recommended practices and guidelines.
    • Participates in interviewing and selecting staff for the unit.s.
    • Ensures appropriate care delivered for patient age and/or developmental specific needs.
    • Participates in the development, promulgation, and implementation of process standards for the delivery of patient care relevant to scope of service.
    • Identifies, initiates investigation and proactively responds immediately to potential and/or actual risk management issues.
    • Provides assistance and guidance to clinical preceptors. Provides input to Clinical Manager for timely clinical preceptor performance appraisals.
    • Serve as a role model for staff in considering the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultures.
    • Communicates significant patient care issues, physician concerns, safety and/or critical events to Director of Perioperative Services and Clinical Manager seeking consultation when necessary.
    • Facilitates cross-training between units to increase flexibility in scheduling and to ensure safe, competent care delivery.
    • Assists in facilitating a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
    • Coordinates unit response to emergent patient and unit/clinical service events, communicating quickly with other leadership and response teams (airway, fire, etc.).
    • Serves as support and resource for the education of health care providers as opportunities arise.
    • Ensures and participates in providing ongoing staff education consistent with the individual needs of the staff as well as those that impact the department.
    • Facilitates an environment conducive to creativity in practice, collaboration with all members of the health team, and the fostering of collegial relationships.
    • Participates and fosters staff involvement in evidence-based practice and other nursing research efforts.
    • Initiates professional development plan for self to improve and sustain clinical and leadership competencies.
    • Demonstrates awareness and recognition of the clinical plan of care.
    • Ensures pertinent communication of patient care and unit related issues from nursing/physician staff are conveyed to the health care team.
    • Participates and/or facilitates research protocols applicable to unit, ensures knowledge of staff, protects rights of patients, and participates in assessment/evaluation of outcomes.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of education and development activities in achieving desired outcomes.
    • Provides direct patient care as needed to support the clinical operations of the unit.
    • Provides leadership for coordination of unit activity, serving as role model and resource during hours of operation.
    • Fosters a positive customer service environment that promotes communication and resolution of issues for patients, families, physician and staff.
    • Facilitates attendance and participation by staff in educational offerings.
    • Assumes responsibility for clinical operations of the unit collaborating with leadership for patient transfer and discharge activity.
    • Maintains scheduling and staffing for optimal availability of resources for safe, competent and effective patient care delivery.
    • Implements performance improvement action plans, collects data and identifies additional opportunities for improvement.
    • Collaborates with others to develop a learning atmosphere that supports education and development of OR staff.
    • Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise, critical thinking and related experience in all aspects of the nursing process in care of patients and families.
    • Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department and service line.
    • Provides clinical leadership by assessing, implementing and evaluating the care provided to patients in the Operating Room.
    • Collaborates with others in identifying, addressing, and utilizing available resources to meet the learning needs of professional and ancillary staff members.

Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have current Registered Professional Nurse in New York. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. A minimum of two years of clinical practice in the Operating Room; ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion which addresses patient/family satisfaction. Membership in pertinent professional organizations; certification in relevant practice area preferred; physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities; provides leadership support on assigned shift with flexibility to meet leadership/administrative needs. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, AHA BLS, Preferred Qualifications: CNOR Certification preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $98,155.51 - $124,800.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
