Description
Camp Robbinswold is located on Hood Canal, which is part of the Puget Sound. Our program primarily focuses on trip and travel opportunities including but not limited to sea kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, hiking, and watersports. Our waterfront is the hub of activity during the Summer Season, it is the location of our swim area, boat ramp and Marine Biology center. We strive to offer a premier outdoor experience for all campers.
The Assistant Leadership Director is responsible for mentoring, training, and scheduling activities for older campers interested in becoming Camp Counselors. Leadership Staff ensures that Interns receive appropriate mentoring and instruction to work directly with campers effectively. Leadership Staff live in an outdoor unit with Outdoor Leaders, Counselors-In-Training and participate in all aspects of Camp life with those campers including activities, meals, campfire, and overnight expeditions. Leadership Staff plan age-appropriate activities to guide young people into becoming excellent Camp Counselors. This position receives 2 hours off daily, and a 24-hour break in-between sessions with occasional weekend duties.

General Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate all Outdoor Leaders, CITs, and interns. Check in with interns daily
  • Plan and lead activities that promote communication, team building, self-confidence, personal growth, and ability to supervise and instruct younger campers
  • Observe and assess camper behavior for appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Participate in all aspects of camp life, including songs, meals, overnight camping trips, activities, campfire, staff training, meetings, clean-up of camp, and camp closing
  • Complete paperwork in a timely fashion, including equipment requests, incident reports, and evaluations
  • Carry out established duties regarding camper health, safety, and program goals
  • Communicate clearly with supervising staff
  • Work as a team with other Leadership Director
  • Set a good example by demonstrating maturity, good communication techniques, cleanliness, good hygiene, punctuality, sportsmanship, sharing, and following rules among other traits.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain via Girl Scouts
  • Desire and ability to work with campers ages 13-18 in an outdoor setting
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to all activities
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant 24-hour supervision of campers
  • Age 20+
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
  • Ability to receive instruction and supervision

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting
  • Previous Girl Scout experience
  • Experience planning and leading teambuilding activities
  • Comfort with and ability to perform various camp activities including boating, crafts, nature hikes, outdoor cooking, chopping wood, fire building, etc.
