First Ascent is seeking an Assistant Gym Manager at our Humboldt Park location to provide an exemplary experience for all those that visit First Ascent. Along with the Gym Manager, the Assistant Gym Manager will be responsible for the day to day operations and performance of the gym. As an Assistant Gym Manager you will be an integral piece of the First Ascent team and will be working every day to grow the climbing community. This requires someone with exceptional communication and organizational skills who is results oriented and thrives while working as part of a team. The below responsibilities are subject to change based on the needs of the organization. This position will report to the Gym Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
First Ascent Culture
- Ensure that the First Ascent mission and values are communicated and implemented
- Work to create a community atmosphere for members and guests
- Work with Gym manager and the Client Engagement team to create unique events that will appeal to your gym clientele.
Facilities
- With Gym Manager utilize staff and outside vendors to keep the facility at an acceptable level of cleanliness for clientele
- Assist with maintaining all aspects of the facility including HVAC, utilities, garbage collection, etc.
- Assist with addressing facility emergency issues including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.
Staffing
- Will ensure gym is adequately staffed at all times, this includes being available for emergency staffing needs
- Responsible for hiring and training new staff
- Assist Bouldering Gym Manager with motivating, disciplining, and terminating staff
- Assist Bouldering Gym Manager with conducting performance reviews of staff
Gym Programming
- Managing the day to day operations of Yoga and Fitness, Youth Programming and Adult Programming with input from the department heads
- Assist Bouldering Gym Manager and head setter with route-setting oversight
- Assist Bouldering Gym Manager and the Support Team with group event coordination and staffing
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years of management experience, preferably in the fitness or recreation industry
- High school diploma/general education degree (GED) preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Exceptional communication and creative problem-solving skills, solid computer skills
- Friendly demeanor, positive attitude and adaptability to various personality types
- Flexible working style and ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage time effectively
- Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and love of climbing and fitness
- Demonstrated knowledge of climbing equipment and proper belay technique
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office based systems, as well as strong computer skills
