SalaryThe Jersey Shore BlueClaws are looking for an Assistant Groundskeeper for the 2024 Season. The position will report directly to the Head Groundskeeper and assist the Head Groundskeeper in various duties related to the playing field and entire property.
The position is an hourly based position with overtime pay.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs gardening and grounds maintenance in caring for turf, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, and hard surfaces by using tools and power equipment.
The Assistant Head Groundskeeper will work in conjunction with the Head Groundskeeper to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing professional baseball field.
Clay repairs – the infield skin, mounds and home plate, and the warning track.
Perform moisture management on infield skin.
Cultural practices – mowing, aeration, topdressing, verticutting, and fertilizing.
Assist in tarp pulls.
Assist in Supervision, scheduling, mentoring and training seasonal part-time game day staff.
Track grounds department inventory (fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.).
Performs gardening and grounds maintenance in caring for turf, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, and hard surfaces by using tools and power equipment.
Must be able to endure extreme heat in the summer and cold winters.
Mow turf using both walk behind and riding mowers and fertilize turf, shrubs, ground cover, flowerbeds and trees.
Operate power equipment such as: rototiller, sod cutter, soil compactor, chain saw, verticutter, hedge trimmer, blowers, mower, tractor, edger, aerial lifts, chain saws, chippers, mini-excavators, skid loaders, hand mowers, rototillers, rollers, lawn sweepers, leaf blowers, and salt spreaders.
Cares for and maintains tools. Maintains and sharpens tools and makes minor repairs on equipment, as needed. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment.
Performs continuous preventative maintenance on existing irrigation systems, including programming irrigation controls as needed due to weather and/or usage of facilities.
Safely operate team-owned vehicles and transport equipment.
Weed shrub, ground cover, and flowerbeds. Sweep, rake, remove leaves and trash, and clean drains and gutters. Prune and shape trees and shrubs for improved health. Edge and trim ground cover around buildings, walks, walls, shrubs, trees, and lamp poles.
Apply pesticides under the supervision of a licensed pest control operator.
Install new irrigation systems where required and repair or replace broken irrigation lines, and valves.
Ability to work weekends and overtime when required.
Qualifications
Candidates must have the ability to do heavy lifting (up to 70 lbs.). Candidates must have the ability to operate light machinery (RTV, ride lawn mower, etc.)- Candidates must have one (1) year related experience in sports turf management, preferably baseball maintenance.
Candidates must have their own housing and transportation available to them.
