Assistant Horticulturist

Status: Full-Time
Shift: 7am – 3pm

Basic Function

Ensure that the high-profile gardens, exterior containers, and all flowerbeds are well maintained and attractive.

Responsibilities:

• Follow Horticulturist instructions for planting of all annual beds and containers, and additions to perennial beds when needed.
• Remove of weeds from grounds, cut grass and trim shrubs.
• Keep flower beds and containers weed free and deadheaded.
• Irrigation and fertilization of all flowerbeds and containers.
• Address any horticultural infestations in a timely manner.
• Conduct guest tours to educate concerning our horticulture.
• Remove trash from grounds, landscaping areas and parking lots on a daily basis.
• Look for and report any safety hazards.
• May carry out other tasks as assigned by Horticulturist.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Good self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision.

2. Possess knowledge of plants, flowers, shrubs, lawns, and pesticides.

4. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

5. Ability to operate pickup truck and utility carts.

6. Ability to operate a lawnmower, weed trimmer, shovel, and other hand tools.

7. To clearly understand product labels, written plans and verbal instructions.

8. Ability to interact with guests in a friendly, unobtrusive and informative manner.

9. Ability to work with other department employees as part of a team.

Work Environment:

Working outside 90% of an 8-hour day.
