Assistant Superintendent

As an Assistant Superintendent you will assists in all facets of golf course maintenance under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. Areas will include renovation projects, landscaping, scheduling, crew supervision and training, calibrations, irrigation use and repair, pesticide/fertilizer applications and other areas as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assists in coordinating daily scheduling of crew duties.
- Performs supervisory duties that support the golf maintenance team.
- Supervise and assist in application of pesticides and fertilizers.
- Operates all equipment associated with golf maintenance.
- Identifies problems and makes recommendations to Superintendent.
- Maintains/inspects golf course grounds, clubhouse grounds, landscaping and maintenance equipment as assigned.
- Conducts and maintains inventory control practices.
- Assists in hiring golf and landscape personnel.
- Trains all employees in all levels of golf course operation.
- Attends approved conferences, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
- 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Management or Agronomy.
- 1-2 years experience or 2 internships in Golf Maintenance.
- Experience in managing cool season turf in the transition zone is a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have strong communication skills.
- Ability to supervise and train employees.
- Sound water management skills/knowledge.
- Ability to identify pest threats on the golf course.
- Good organizational and record keeping skills.
- Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules.
- Ability to run facility in Superintendents absence.
- High degree of focus on details and a commitment to excellence.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays with little or no notice.
- Pesticide License preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance independently and repeatedly.
- Work is performed outdoors while exposed to dampness, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, rain, sleet, snow, heat, chemicals, machinery with moving parts, loud noise, and irrigated water.
- Must be able to walk 2-5 miles per day.
- This position requires physical endurance during periods of extreme weather conditions.
