Job description

Position Summary:
This position will report to the Head Football Coach, having a primary responsibility of providing instruction, coaching expertise and leadership to the student athletes of the intercollegiate Football program; assisting the head coach in the effective management and administration of all aspects relating to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate experience for student-athletes; and performing other related duties as assigned. All coaches at Adams State University will demonstrate commitment to and exemplify the University and Athletic Department Mission.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists in coaching student-athletes, which includes evaluating their performance in both practice and competition.
  • Teaching fundamental techniques and providing leadership and instruction, as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior for the student-athletes in your charge.
  • Maintain standards of performance consistent with departmental academic and athletic expectations as reflected in the mission statement, goals, objectives, departmental guidelines, and performance appraisal procedures.
  • Responsible for implementing a successful recruiting strategy to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Adams State University while remaining in full compliance with all NCAA and RMAC rules, as well as departmental and college policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and implement, with the head coach and compliance officer, eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations, proper administration of financial aid for both prospective and enrolled student-athletes, facilities scheduling, and contest administration and game operations as necessary.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing all aspects of video game exchange, editing, film sessions, download & upload of games in compliance with the NCAA and RMAC guidelines.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of all practices, group workouts, shooting and film sessions and contests of assigned specialty. Responsible for monitoring student-athletes' academic progress.
  • Responsible for classroom checks, study hall and progress reports. Assist in the coordination, development, supervision and daily operations of summer camps and clinics.
  • Engage in, coordinate and help implement all fund-raising activities for the program in conjunction with the head coach, athletic advancement and its representatives.

  • Ability to perform the requirements of the position
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities and excellent communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to strict adherence to NCAA, RMAC, university and department rules and regulations as well as a solid commitment to student achievement in academics.
  • The successful candidate will be a person of high ethical standards and show initiative and integrity to make important independent decisions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment
  • Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegiality with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.

Salary

Adams State University is a state-supported regional comprehensive university in Alamosa, Colorado, United States. Adams State is Colorado’s premier Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and is also a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) with over 54% of our students representing diverse backgrounds. The vast San Luis Valley is designated the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area. We are, at 7,500 feet, in the largest alpine valley in the United States. Alamosa is located approximately 3.5 hours from Denver, 1.5 hours from Taos, New Mexico, and 2.5 hours from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alamosa has a population of 9,500, with recently built elementary schools, a moderate cost of living, and affordable housing. ASU takes a leading role in local theatre performances and musical events and is in an area where the opportunities for outdoor recreation abound.
The city of Alamosa was established in May 1878 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and quickly became an important rail center. The railroad had an extensive construction, repair, and shipping facility in Alamosa and for many years headquartered its remaining narrow gauge service in Alamosa with tracks reaching many points throughout southwest Colorado and northern New Mexico. Alamosa is a notable tourist town with many nearby attractions, including the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Colorado Gators Reptile Park, surrounded by national forest and several mountain ranges with peaks exceeding 14,000 feet in elevation. The town hosts "Summer Fest on the Rio" which occurs the first weekend in June, the Early Iron car show over the Labor Day weekend, and "Weekends on the Rio" on various Sundays throughout the summer. Annual precipitation is only 7.25 inches, with summer being the wettest. The aridity depresses snowfall to around 32 inches and the median to only 22.3 inches.
