Job Summary:
Assists the Equine Manager in the oversight of the equine program and care for animals at Stone Gables Estate(SGE). Creates a fun and safe atmosphere for the equine team and guests and works with the events team to help conduct events.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Extensive riding and animals care background is preferred.
- Education in Equine Science preferred.
- Ability to lead a team and delegate tasks to team members.
Primary Job Duties:
- Assists in oversight of the SGE Equine Program
- Feeds and conducts daily observation and maintenance of all animals and grounds
- Supervises all health care and record documentation of each animal
- Ability to identify farm animals requiring medical attention
- Schedules and meets with vets for appointments in addition to scheduling dentist, farrier, and shearing appointments
- Provides training to equine/event staff and assigns daily duties including safety procedures
- Leads, maintains and creates a fun and safe trail riding experience for guests including inventory control of supplies
- Organizes groups such as Summer Camp, Girl Scouts and Saddle Club
- Ability to work well with and around children
- Works closely with Executive Management to ensure trail ride sales are on target for the year
- Parking cars, directing traffic, greeting guests, driving horse drawn carriages and hitch wagon, and tacking up horses for horse rides
- Other duties may be assigned
Physical Demands/Environment:
- Regularly required to sit or walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; use peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus; work in wet or humid conditions and in outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequently required to stand, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk, smell; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use distance vision. Subject to cleaning chemicals.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move over 100 pounds, work in high places.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
