Job description

Our Assistant Electrical Engineers are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard Electrical Engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of electrical systems, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

Oil, Gas, & Chemical

We are seeking an Assistant Electrical Engineer to join our growing team in the Oil, Gas, & Chemical division. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will assist in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry.

  • Assist with the design of 15kV, 5kV, 480V and below voltage systems, one lines, motor schematics, plans and elevations, installation details, drawing lists, cable sizing, and other basic electrical calculations. Develop industrial construction and field experience. Specify lighting transformers, panelboards, switchboards, MCCs, and other small power equipment and material. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
  • Assist with a full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Assist with initial rough designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Work with and help coordinate design efforts of Burns & McDonnell's India office.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience
  • Previous internship and/or related experience preferred.
  • Refinery, gas processing, or pipeline experience a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of the NEC, Industrial Construction, Industrial Facility Safety, and CAD Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Willingness to travel to the job site and meet with clients and construction personnel to scope the project and answer construction problems.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
